  • Good basic maintenance kit
My daughter has been using this to maintain her trumpet which is also yamaha and it seems to be working well. The valve oil and slide grease holds up great and keeps the trumpet in good working order. The brushes work great for cleaning as well.

  • High Quality
I've been playing trumpet for 20 years and have used many brands of cleaning snakes and other products. I would say that these Yamaha cleaning kits are better quality than the cheap non-branded ones. You can tell that they are better because the snake brush ends don't shred off after a few uses and the slide and valve oils last longer in the horn before needing to be refreshed. I will continue to buy these Yamaha trumpet cleaning kits. ... show more

  • Highly recommended
Still my highest recommendation (from a trumpet professional). This is the trumpet cleaning kit I recommend for my trumpet students (I've been playing professionally and teaching for 28 years). The Giardinelli one is an okay option for a budget shopper, but the items in this kit, if purchased separately, would cost more than the total, and they are constructed well and will last a long time. If I recall correctly, the Giardinelli snake is a little shorter than the one in the Yamaha kit; other than that, the main difference is that the Yamaha brushes have metal handles rather than cheap plastic. And Yamaha includes decent valve oil and grease in this kit, while most kits package economy oils that are worse than useless (cheap valve oil just gums up the valves). This kit includes a rubber-coated snake. This is good because you are less likely to scratch the finish on the instrument than with an old-style metal snake; however, after curling and re-curling the snake for a couple years, the rubberized coating begins to degrade and will flake off in the instrument. Solution? Hang the snake up straight if you can, and I think it would last at least 5 years if not ten. A budget option would be to purchase just the trumpet snake and the mouthpiece brush, because you can double up the two ends of the snake to make a thicker brush to use on the valves. Added 1-11-19: Some of the other kits on Amazon have weirdly-sized brushes that do not fit trumpets, even though they are advertised as "trumpet cleaning kits". Stick with Yamaha, and you'll get reasonably good oil and slide grease as well. In this case, I do think that the generic items are not as good. ... show more

  • Good kit
This kit has all the brushes needed to clean a trumpet. The snake is high quality with a plastic coating so it won't scratch the horn. The mouthpiece brush and valve casing brush hold together well. I don't use the valve oil that comes in the kit because I prefer something of a higher quality that won't gum up my valves. This is the second of these kits that I have bought. I bought the first one well over fifteen years ago and only had to buy another one because it got lost when I moved. ... show more

  • Attention to Detail
This Trumpet maintenance kit is likely one of the best for the money. Small details like the brushes having plastic tips that are resistant to hot water and the snake being covered instead of exposed gooseneck spring make a difference. The Polishing cloth maybe small but is fine and really stands the test of time. The valve oil in this particular kit contains more than in older kits and the slide grease comes in a convenient chap stick style applicator. All in all if you are going to be spending about 20 bucks on a maintenance kit for your Trumpet or Cornet look no further than this one. ... show more

  • Comes With Everything You Need to Clean Your Trumpet
This is a complete trumpet cleaning kit, with all the necessary snake brushes you need to clean out the gunk build-up in the tubes of your trumpet. My recommendation is to throw out the valve oil and get yourself some Ultra Pure instead. The Yamaha and Vincent Bach valve oils seem to dry out fast. If I don't practice for even a few days, the oil dries out and I have to reapply. With Ultra Pure by comparison, I've only used it twice in the past three months. That stuff does not seem to dry out and runs forever. Back to what's included with this cleaning kit. You also get a polishing cloth to keep your trumpet nice and shiny, along with slide grease. If you play the trumpet, you definitely need to get into the habit of giving it a bath at least once every few months, depending on how often you practice. Otherwise, harmful bacteria starts building up, making it unsanitary and unsafe. Don't get cheap and get this cleaning kit today. You'll be glad you did. ... show more

  • Good Cleaning Kit for the Price
Better than many similar kits. Brushes are non-metallic as they should be. Includes a bottle of Yamaha synthetic valve oil, which is one of the good ones. The cleaning cloth is useful if your horn is lacquer, but not much use if it's silver plated. Well, you can't have EVERYTHING for that price, but if you judiciously use the brushes in the prescribed manner, you'll have a well maintained and CLEAN trumpet (or cornet). If your horn's valves intermittently stick or return slowly, clean the valves and valve casings thoroughly before re-oiling. Be careful to never mix synthetic oils with natural oils. Pick one and use it. If you use natural oil and want to try a synthetic, clean the valves and casing first. Use this kit and you'll be playing a horn that doesn't 'smell funny'. ... show more

  • nice kit
Overall, a nice basic kit. Unlike most other kits, the valve oil and grease are both synthetic. The cleaning cloth is 8"x8". Attached pic shows the current version of the product I received in late 2020.
