  • A very nice mouthpiece for beginners and more advanced players alike
Style: Mouthpiece 4C
I have tried out various mouthpieces and paid a pretty penny for fancy 'professional' mouthpieces and I have to tell you this is a fantastic mouthpiece. I have a Selmer Alto Sax and did not want to spend a lot of money on a Tenor Sax to play in a local Community Band so I bought a horn from one of those online auction sellers - very nice horn for the money but the mouthpiece was total junk. I paired this mouthpiece with a Rovner Tenor Sax Ligature and I could not believe the sound I was getting. I loved this so much I actually bought one for my Selmer and use it as my primary mouthpiece when I play with the 15 Piece Big Band I am in. I was using another brand name 'jazz' mouthpiece but I always found that sound to be too bright. This mouthpiece allows me to play out and cut through in solos but also delivers a mellow tone when the piece calls for it. Best $20 I spent on this horn and my Alto. Highly recommend - you will not be sorry you spent the money ... show more

  • A excellent mpc from Yamaha
Style: Mouthpiece 4C
I ordered this mouthpiece along with my tenor sax to have a few options to work with while learning. The mouthpiece is one of the most important parts of sound production in the saxophone so having a good comfortable one to work with is important. A poor mouthpiece can lead to bad playing habits, frustration by its effects on the sound, or just rain on the whole playing experience. Out of the three mouthpieces I have this one outdoes them all. It produces sound well, it does not irritate the mouth while playing, and any sound issues I have had have been my fault not the mouthpiece. If you read on forums or reviews you will find this mouthpiece has a great reputation and is often used for years until a one of the much more expensive style dedicated mouthpieces become worth the investment. Your money will be well spent on the Yamaha 4C and I recommend it to any beginner or just someone looking for a great inexpensive mouthpiece. Enjoy and play well. ... show more

  • Good, middle of the road mouthpiece for a novice
Style: Mouthpiece 4C
I am new to sax. I got a cheap Glory saxophone and based on reviews decided that I should get this mouthpiece. Several of the reviewers suggested the stock mouthpiece was garbage and this would be a good starter mouthpiece. The sax arrived a day before the mouthpiece so I used the stock mouthpiece with the orange rico 2.5 reeds I had ordered with the sax the first two times I practiced. I didn't find the stock mouthpiece to be terrible. Granted this is based on no prior experience but by the end of the first half hour practice I was doing a C Major scale and a couple simple songs. However I was hoping this mouthpiece would be noticeably better than the stock mouth piece, even to my novice abilities. In fact, I thought maybe it would make an improvement in my playing overnight (well technically later that day). On the good news front, I didn't think to get a ligature when I got the new mouthpiece but the one I had fit. In fact side by side both the stock mouthpiece and this one are nearly identical. The shape and material are very similar. If I play them back to back with the same reed I get a similar sound and feel while playing. That said, I've picked up playing pretty well with this mouthpiece so I don't have any complaints. I think it is a perfectly reasonable starter and a good price. The sound is ... smooth is the best description I can think of. I can get some "pop" out of it but mostly its a fairly well rounded sound. I play harmonica and would describe it as similar to the sound of a hohner special 20. Nice, even, and adaptable but nothing to make it stand out. I'll be looking to replace it before long but do expect to keep it around for when I need something more middle of the road. ... show more

  • VERY NICE
Style: Mouthpiece 4C
The Yamaha 4C is a great mouthpiece that produces a nice smooth sound. Even after 25 years of not playing, I was able to run up and down the scale with ease. The horn came with a different mouthpiece that giving me a headache because I could barely make the thing squawk. The Yamaha 4C is the best & normally retails for $40. I love it!!! ... show more

  • Definitive BEST VALUE
Style: Mouthpiece 4C
This mouthpiece is the absolute only choice for an economy mouthpiece. Yamaha really manages to get the best sound possible out of these plastic mouthpieces. For the price, these are by a long shot the best value out there. The 4c model is great for anyone beginner or pro. These really are the highest quality mouthpieces that you can get for under $150. It's remarkable how amazing these seemingly cheap things are. Compared to a stock mouthpiece, they are absolutely amazing. Best value in mouthpieces by far. Almost comparable to the far superior Selmer S series. Must buy! 10/10 ... show more

  • Simple - works
Style: Mouthpiece 4C
It's simple and it works. Tried out several advanced mouthpieces and found this one allowed the high school saxophonist to be the most in control of air flow. Will advance later on in his music life but sticking with this for now.
