  • Good enough video card for undemanding uses
This review is for the GeForce 2.0 GT610 2GB card. Once upon a time I worked on PCs every day and had a huge stockpile of random parts I could draw from when I was building or repairing a machine, but my collection is pretty out-of-date now so it's nice to find some low-cost components like this. This card isn't up to the task of modern gaming, but it will get you some 3D capabilities. For me that means being able to run some 3D CAD software and Google Earth smoothly. Which still seems funny to me to consider low-end applications because I've still got an SGI workstation kicking around that would have struggled with both of those, and that was a $40,000 machine when it was new. So while a $42 card isn't going to impress a modern gamer, it's still quite a capable bit of gear for anything but recent graphics-heavy games. ... show more

  • Perfect GPU for Content Streaming and Productivity but Not Gaming
This was an interesting experience that left me with mixed feelings about this Graphics Card. For a GPU that launched over a decade ago, this little piece of hardware can pull its own weight against the integrated graphics of most CPUs (depending on what you use it for). The graphics card also includes a driver CD and additional bracket sizes for low profile cases. The card, despite its age, also appeared virtually brand new with no signs of wear, tear, or dust of any sort. For the setup, I was able to install this in no time as it just slots right into the PCIe slot on your motherboard, and doesn't even need any additional power connections. Afterwards, I was able to turn my PC on and while I could see the video signal on my display, you will need to install the drivers to get the full usage out of it. This was the first obstacle as I didn't have a CD drive to install the drivers it came with, so I had to download an archived Nvidia driver from 2018 to be able to get the GPU fully running as intended. After that was done, it was ready to be used. After the setup, I was able to use it perfectly with a 1080p 165hz monitor, but I was limited to 60hz with no option to choose any refresh rate higher than that. Despite that, I didn't experience any stutters or lag when using the PC for easy to run tasks such as watching videos online, scrolling through long articles, and playing flash-style mini games. I was even able to fully set the videos I watched to 4K resolution, and it didn't have any skipped frames and the playback remained smooth. I was also able to have a video playing on one side of my screen while typing out a document on the other half without any issues either. However, when it comes to gaming, this is not something you should count on to run newer AAA games. This card has only 2GB of DDR3 VRAM with low clock speeds that severely limit your options on what it is capable of running. For example, I tried Black Ops 3 and with the resolution scaler set to 480p and low settings across the board, it did run but at an average frame rate of 27 FPS. Even older games such as Half-Life 2, Left for Dead, and CS:GO all gave it a bit of a challenge at 1080p and all had to have either the resolution lowered or graphical settings decreased in order to maintain a playable frame rate. There is some good news though, the card is a good emulator and can run most older classic games without issue, so this could be a standout feature to those who like Retro gaming. Additionally, when compared to iGPUs inside most modern CPUs, the performance changes get interesting. This GPU is more responsive when running browser-based games and playing back 4K video, yet can't match the gaming performance that's massively better on some of those newer integrated graphics chips. Overall, this is an excellent budget graphics card if you just need to use your computer for a basic display output for working, watching videos or emulating classic games. Despite that, please don't expect this to be a full on "gaming" GPU. In the end, I'm surprised as I would highly recommend this to those building a basic work or entertainment PC, but I would not recommend it for serious gamers. ... show more

  • Basic Graphics Card
This is an older graphics card that is inexpensive and has modest power demands. The chipset isn’t good enough for current games, but it does work well for basic things such as photo editing, watching streaming video and other routine tasks. It would make a decent upgrade for an older computer that is using the integrated graphics on the motherboard - giving the computer a moderate boost in performance. The graphics card was easy to install and set up. It works immediately, but to get the best the card can do it’s recommended to install the drivers. It is a half-height card which comes with a low-profile bracket so it can be used with some small form factor PC’s. Setting expectations - this is a not a graphics card for gaming - it is better thought of as an inexpensive card that may extend the life of an older computer. ... show more

  • Good value for a low cost computer build
The GT610 was released in 2012 so this is a pretty old design and low performance. I did not need a card for gaming so for non-gaming use it is fine. For the price, it's a good value.

  • Dated and not for modern gaming, but for basic computing it will work well
This GPU is quite dated and under powered compared to modern video cards, but for certain uses it will work just fine. It may even be an upgrade from your integrated with CPU GPU. As for me, I have gotten a little use out of it. I bought it as a backup in case my modern gaming GPU fails and I can no longer boot windows because I do not have an integrated GPU, unfortunately. I tested it with some simple video playing and streaming, along with minor editing tasks, and it performed them quite well. It was relatively quiet and stayed quite cool even under heavy load too, which was a surprise. I also played some very basic games from the early 00’s and it handled them well also. While this card will not work for many peoples modern needs, if you just need a video card for simple tasks and basic computing on a 1080p screen, or you need a backup in case of failure, like me, this card will do you well. It is also priced well, I compared prices for used ones on eBay and the prices were comparable- and this one is new! So in that sense it is a bargain. I am giving it 4 stars, one knocked off just because it is such an old model. ... show more
