Definitely recommend getting this is your going to use a heat press. I think if you were doing one item an ironing board might work. But this allows the heat to stay right with the item to get a secure weld to the fabric.

I'm making shirts for the first time. Everything I read suggested a heat pad on a table would be better stability than an ironing board. This little gem did not disappoint! Not only was it a good size, but I was able to press pretty firmly and only the top side under the shirt heated up.
