  • Great printer; nice color printing; a few downsides
We got this to replace a previous Xerox whose printer cartridges had become so expensive that it was actually cheaper to just keep buying a new printer (over $1000!!). I have a small business and we print out a lot of materials for people traveling to Japan, so they have to look nice and professional. We don't print a lot all the time, but during our busy season it can go all day. We like the new ink cubes; even using the initial set (which usually prints fewer) we got a pretty good run before we had to change out the cartridge. Speed is good and we do a lot of duplex, which it handles easily. I really like the report you can get printed out of how many pages you've used on each ink color. Very handy. I am pretty sure we've saving a lot on ink already - I'd lover to have an annual purchase rather than a semi-annual one. A few drawbacks. The first drives me crazy -- it seems that the default is set for two-sided printing. I can only figure this is a "Green" feature - but we've wasted MORE paper throwing things away that were automatically printed two sided that could not be (say, the two copies of the Fedex international airbill). We haven't found any way to permanently change this default. And if you even close out a program (e.g. Word) and then reopen it, you have to remember to reset the default to one-sided, or, ooops, two-sided for everything. It's a little loud, I've come to over look that. It also makes a sound that's a lot like a fax searching for signal - we can't figure out how to get that to stop or even why it's doing that, but when the office it quiet, it goes on all the time. The other thing with the ink cubes is apparently you have to be careful when you order them that you ask for the right international region - there seem to be different ones for North America vs. Asia. We did a little research before ordering replacements so didn't get burned on that, but we found quite a few people who had. Altogether, happy with the purchase and the results. ... show more

  • Can I give it 0 stars?
Printer arrived just a couple months ago. Replaced a Dell 5100CN which dies after years of service. Liked the idea of the cartridge system this used. Print quality was fine. Printer hums and makes noise. Office staff immediately complained it took forever to warm up and pint. And was noisy. But we are just getting started. Beginning of October, about a week after we got it. The 2nd tray stopped printing. Kept telling us the tray guides were out of alignment. Took tray out, they looked fine. Back in they went. Nothing. Back in and out. a dozen times. Finally if you got lucky it would print. Shift it to tray 1, manual feed? Worked fine. One annoying feature is that it defaults to 2 sided printing. Anyway. Not done. Called Xerox, emailed too, beginning of November. After convincing them that yes, I WAS capable of pulling the tray out and loading paper properly (really?) and that I had not twisted and turned the alignment guides into a pretzel, that yes, the tray was holding paper as it should, they sent me a new tray. Inserted the new tray around the middle of October. It worked! YAY! For a few days. And for the month since. Back to square 1. Contacting support, they are CONVINCED that this is an intricate and delicate piece of high tech equipment. Clearly I had nudged, bumped or somehow thrown these plastic tray guides a micrometer out of whack. So, after a couple of months of this, we are no further along. The printer is still noisy. It still groans and moans unsolicited. And yes, it won't print. Will NOT print in tray 2. So if you don't mind feeding your printer paper 25 pages at a time, have at it. If you expect the 500 page paper tray to work? Forget it. If you expect Xerox to acknowledge the problem? Forget that also. Total piece of crap. Buy anything else. ... show more

  • Paper Jams printing on card stock
Owned a xerox 8550 and its predecessor. Both were costly due to wax/toner waste regardless of what they say. So many issues with clogged jets causing banding. The 8570 set up was successful but way too long about an hour from start to printing test page. Noticeably noisier than previous models. The killer problem for me is that the printer jams every time I attempt to use card stock. I've been using the same card stock on the previous models without problem. This problem renders this printer almost useless for my purposes. Also... I still can not get the manual feed tray to work... same issues as prior two models. I called support but they could not resolve issue. A tech could come out for just under $300 for the first hour. Or I could purchase an on-site support plan. Sorry to say Xerox has not only lost my future business but I can no longer recommend Xerox to my customers. Maybe I received a lemon... don't have time or financial resources to take another chance. If you're printing on plain paper (non-card stock), and can put the printer in a closet to shield from excessive noise, don't need the manual feed tray, then this might work just fine for you. Good luck. UPDATE: I found a way to print to the manual tray... You must empty the bottom/main paper tray, only then would the printer recognize and pull form the manual tray. it makes sense that you would have to do that right? Not... Encountered problems printing some very ornate / complex fonts that I use frequently, The upper case characters printed a line over or just outside some of the characters. After downloading the latest driver, it resolved this problem. ... show more
