  • Well worth it
Color: Blue
There were zero used motorcycles available in my area in the price range of this Hawk that didn't need $1000 worth of repairs! That made my decision to get a Hawk an easy one. Why get old junk for more when I can buy a new motorcycle? I have been a mechanic for many years and I am not afraid of the challenge of an old bike. The issue lies in the bank account. On to the Hawk. It has zero "birth marks" from shipping and went together easily. But realize that I have put together many motorcycles as a dealer mechanic. This Hawk posed no extra effort nor did it have any peculiar oddities in its construction or fitment. It was actually very enjoyable and fun to assemble. Do not start this bike with the supplied oil! Drain it immediately and use good known quality oil. I even ran mine a couple times after the first oil change and changed it again to "rinse" the shipping oil out. Oil is cheap. Engines are not. The fit and finish were far above my expectations. While not perfect, it is very nice for a sub $1800 bike. After the first ride today, I am pleased. But note this, it is very low geared. Running around town at 30mph in top gear seems like a good cruising speed. Anything much faster than 35mph feels too fast for a new engine to rev. Plan to buy at least a larger front sprocket if this doesn't work for you. Research what has worked for others and decide what will work for you. I like this bike! And I have had over 35 motorcycles so far in my life. So that should count for something to someone. ... show more

  • 15 miles in, so far worth the money
Color: Green
I've driven the new Hawk about 15 miles as of today; so far I think it was a good buy. Pros: Price is cheap for a new bike, incredible exhaust sound (Loud, but not too loud, and mine crackles in a good way when I downshift), easy to assemble (I have some mechanical skills, also watching YouTube assembly videos helps), another reviewer said they got theirs a week early (Mine was as well!), there is basically no sound when you change gears (My Ninja 650R makes a "chunk" sound between gears, especially shifting from neutral to 1st, I'm told this is common for Ninjas), the title and Bill Of Sale were successfully delivered after the bike came (Paperwork came ~3 days after the bike I believe) Cons: The only damage I found was the plastic cover on the right side (see pictures), there is a slight rattling sound when riding that I need to investigate, I ran into issues at the DMV because my Bill Of Sale was under my funny Amazon name "Harry Buttkiss" (Had it been under my real name it may have been free for plates/ registration. It was purchased through California which has a higher sales tax than Minnesota. I paid $140 at the DMV because of my silly Amazon name), you need 2 people for one step of the assembly (1 to lift the rear up while another person installs the axle bolt for the center shock, you may need 2 people to install the front wheel, what I did was carefully lay the bike on its side AFTER I drained the shipping oil so I could install the front wheel myself), it's sort of awkward to get the bike into neutral (it's easiest to shift down to 1st, then up one, on my Ninja I can find neutral from 2nd gear no problem, maybe I'm just used to how my Ninja 650R shifts, but my Hawk has some play in the shifter), listen to what other reviewers say because you really do need Loctite for these bolts (I was riding and I heard something metal on the ground, I went back and found a bolt, it was 1 of the 2 bolts holding my front brake caliper on. Buy the Loctite that allows you to remove the bolts/screws later, I believe the stuff I bought is called Loctite 242), the bike sits pretty high (I'm 6'4" and I can barely put my feet flat when on the bike, I think the height is adjustable though, if you're 6 feet tall or below you should look into this), the left mirror likes to move around due to the vibrations (The mirror itself that you can tilt is on a ball joint, maybe over time it will stiffen up) That's all I can think of at the moment, if you want to ask me questions you can comment on one of my YouTube videos, my channel is "Mike from Winona". I'll be posting a video on the Hawk soon. ... show more

  • upgrade carb!!
These bikes are seriously amazing for the price, very minimal upgrades and youre set! I personally put in a nibbi 28mm carb and 45/17 tooth sprocket set and the bike feels great, the assembly can get a little bit tricky if not too mechanically inclined, but with patience its most definitely doable by everyone, take your time and look up torque specs for bolts. So far the only issue i had was the mirrors and speedometer cable shipped broken but they immediately sent new ones, amazing customer service, PICK THEM UP WHILE THEY ARE CHEAP! ... show more

  • Won't be legalized
Color: Green
Hopefully this helps someone. I bought this for my husband thankfully he's a mechanic which an inspection license because we changed the oil and took advice from the other reviews and the bike only runs for 5 minutes and it takes about 10 minutes to get it started. He's still working on it. we took the bike and the MSO sheet to the notary to get it legalized and they can't because on the MSO sheet it says it complies with federral safety laws and the nation high traffic admin and the front tire is not a DOT approved tire. I contacted the seller right away and they insist it's because the MSO sheet needs notarized and they have absolutely refused to send a DOT tire because "They haven't been told they have to", also Amazon won't help because it's third party and they don't show the legal paperwork on the advertisement so "it matches the description online" ..... still fighting but be aware to everyone else what you're signing up for. ... show more

  • Awesome
Color: Green
Awesome dirt bike, especially with everything that comes with it. Easy assembly, fast shipping, great price. Would definitely recommend this to anyone. I give this a 10 out of 10. Can't beat a dirt bike that comes with rear view mirrors, horn and turning signals. Definitely street and trail ready. Hubby was very pleased. Rides it almost every day. ... show more
