I ride Wilderness Trail Bike saddles on all of my off-road bikes. This is the sixth Rocket saddle I have owned, and I ride no other on my fat tire bikes. The width (medium) is consistent and fits me perfectly. It has "thick" padding for a high-end saddle and has a shape that lends itself to upright riding and seated climbing. The cover is comfortable with durable corners that won't tear if you go down. Note that I ride a WTB El Dorado on my gravel bike. It has a similar width, but the shape and padding are amenable to the more prone position on that bike. "A saddle is like the hand of god.     • Fantastic seat, but get the right size

I own 4 mountain bikes, 1 road bike and 1 adult BMX bike. The WTB saddles are all I use. They look great. The material used and the design of the WTB saddles make for a comfortable ride, and they can take a beating. Be sure to measure your "sit bones" to get the correct recommended seat width. Find a thick piece of cardboard and sit on it so your sit bones make impressions on the cardboard (you might have to bounce a bit to make impressions). If you can manage it, draw your knees close to your chest to put more weight on your backside. With pencil or pen, draw circles following the outer edge of the impressions and put a dot in the center of each circle. Measure the distance between the dots in millimeters (or in inches and google the inches to millimeter conversion). Add 15 millimeters to your measurement and you have your recommended seat width. If the available seat size is a few millimeters off, you should still be fine. My seat bone measurement is 127mm. I order 142mm to 145mm seats every time and they are always on point. As a 200-pound mountain biker who rides a mix of trails, I had high hopes for the WTB Rocket saddle, especially given its reputation for comfort. While it offers decent support, the unexpectedly firm padding and weak steel rails make it a disappointing choice compared to my preferred WTB Volt. For heavier riders like me, this saddle falls short in durability and overall comfort. Comfortable but Surprisingly Firm Padding The WTB Rocket provides solid support, with a shape that fits my sit bones well in the 142mm width. The padding, marketed as a thicker version, is designed to enhance comfort, but I found it firmer than the WTB Volt, which was surprising and less comfortable for my preferences. While the Rocket’s medium-width design and central channel reduce pressure points and prevent numbness on longer rides, it lacks the plush, forgiving feel of the Volt. Even on moderate singletrack, the firmer padding made extended rides less enjoyable, especially on rough descents or seated climbs. For me, the Volt’s softer, more cushioned feel is far superior for all-day trail comfort. Weak Steel Rails The biggest letdown is the steel rails, which bent after just a few rides. As a 200-pound rider, I expected the rails to handle my weight, especially since WTB markets the Rocket for versatile trail use. However, the rails proved too soft, deforming under normal riding stress like seated climbs and rough terrain, with no major crashes involved. The bending caused the saddle to tilt, rendering it unusable. I’ve used other saddles, including the Volt with chromoly rails, that held up fine under my weight, so this failure was a major disappointment for a saddle priced around $60–$100. Durability Concerns for Heavier Riders The bent rails highlight a critical durability issue for heavier riders. While the saddle’s cover and structure showed no wear, the rail failure made it unreliable after minimal use. For a brand like WTB, I expected better longevity, especially compared to the Volt, which has been far more resilient in my experience. Heavier riders (200 pounds and up) should be cautious, as the steel rails seem underengineered for our needs. Overall Experience The WTB Rocket has a well-designed shape and decent support, but the firmer-than-expected padding and weak steel rails make it a poor choice for a 200-pound rider like me. Compared to the WTB Volt, which offers softer, more comfortable padding and reliable rails, the Rocket feels like a step backward. The rails bent far too easily after a few rides, and the firm padding didn’t match my preference for the Volt’s plush feel. If you’re a lighter rider or can opt for a Rocket with stronger chromoly rails, it might work, but for heavier riders on demanding trails, I’d recommend sticking with the Volt or another more durable saddle.
