    • Much better than a pipe - Add leverage to nearly any wrench
Great way to gain leverage on a wrench, this tools fits the handle of most wrenches giving them an 13 inches of handle length which increases the leverage greatly and if that isn't enough the extension even has a place to attach a breaker bar or ratchet extended the wrench even further. I usually use pipes for that extra leverage but now this single tool fits most of my wrenches and much better to have in the tool box. One of the better benefits is the close fit works much better in tight spots, sometimes those pipes fit loose over the wrench and can not be used in tight work areas. All around this tool is a much better option, put that breaker bar on the wrench. ... show more

    • Lots of leverage
For years I've had a piece of conduit I'd flattened one end of to use as a wrench extender much as this is designed to do - I was excited to try using something actually designed for that purpose. Both of these items are heavy pieces of metal - I can't imagine someone damaging either (note - "2 pack" in the listing refers to the two separate pieces. not actually two of the larger extender bar pictured). These are large and heavy duty - although you could use them on smaller wrenches, it appears to me they are really suited to larger (9/16" plus-sized) wrenches ... you could probably break anything smaller with them anyway. You can absolutely get a lot of torque with either of them - I expect your ability to break off nuts/bolts will be increased dramatically :-). I haven't actually used the smaller black item yet, but did attach it to a 1/2" breaker I had - easy to see how it would function similarly. Now either doesn't hold a wrench securely - if you can place a wrench on a bolt/nut and then reach onto it with them that works for just leverage purposes. If you want to actually use an extender to place a wrench, you'll need attach the wrench to it somehow. What I've found that works well is to tape the wrench to it with either masking or painting tape. Solid tool and an occasionally a real effort saver. ... show more

Get this instead. The smaller socket adapter is new to me, so I can't yet confirm that it's the bee's knees. The larger one has the profile of a good wrench, but the size and mass of a typical socket wrench (I expected it to be smaller). The upshot, IMHO is that you get a more comfortable handle in addition to the extension function. I suggest wrapping it with cloth grip tape or similar if you plan to use this in the winter (and you are a wimp about being cold like I am). It's brand new so I can't speak to durability yet, but the chrome plating seems good. It has the unpolished forging texture under the chrome. Not as pretty as a polished wrench, but I like the texture. It gives plenty of grip when greasy. Edit: I used the wrench extender in an actual project setting today. I'd previously used a length of steel tube over this socket wrench, but this extender is magnitudes better. I'd planned to try the socket wrench one that was included, but this cracked the bolts loose so well that I used for all four in less time than it would have taken to get the other one. My assumptions regarding durability and comfort are bearing out. I was wearing nitrile gloves that were filthy with brake dust and had no trouble holding the handle. I checked it over while cleaning my tools after the job. No evidence that it had ever been used - no marks from being on the wrench or from the many times I dropped it on the concrete floor. Edit 2: I had a legitimate use for the socket-type extender that I didn't foresee. This is a brake piston winder tool for disk brakes that have self-adjusting pistons that have to be rotated as they're pressed. The winder can be turned by hand, but this tool made it so much easier. ... show more

This product has 2 parts in the box: Extender bar (aka cheater or breaker bar), and Tool adapter (the black thing in the picture). Extender: First impression is just how heavy this extender is. At 24.3 oz, it is as heavy as a small pipe wrench. It cradles a typical open-end wrench nicely and holds it straight (see picture). The end has a 1/2 inch square hole that I suppose can support a ratchet for extra leverage, but I can’t picture myself doing that vs finding a longer pipe for really tough nuts. While it’s not exactly a mirror-finished quality tool, it is more than good enough. Adapter: Having trouble imagining situations where this would be useful. Given that it grabs a wrench in the middle, it’s not providing significant extra leverage to loosen stuck nuts. I suppose there could be the odd case when working under the hood on a car where the engineers didn’t leave enough room for the mechanic to fully use a wrench for a stuck nut, but it would have to be a very uncommon case where a ratchet wouldn’t be better. One other comment is that mine isn’t machined as cleanly as the extender, to the point where my 1/2” drive ratchet would not fully insert into the square hole.
