I compared this item to several pairs of cargo shorts purchased from a clothing "seconds" reseller. Often high quality expensive items ended up here simply because the size label was incorrect, or stitching was slightly off. Yet those were well made and lasted nearly a decade. The Wrangler brand used to represent a quality pair of jeans, years ago. Pros: Main advantage: The fit is as advertised and comfortable in the crotch region and waistline. The fabric is thin, this may be what you want if you prefer a lighter fabric. There are 5 smaller cargo pockets instead of 2 large ones. It uses Velcro pocket closures. A side point regarding fit is that the crotch and groin region is snug in the Amazon Basics cargo shorts. It's "fine" if you never sit down. This item, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JQTPQDQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Cons: Main disadvantage: On a dayhike the old shorts mentioned above could carry a sandwich and a deflated bag of chips or small water bottle. You won't be able to do that with these shorts, but you could carry all sorts of tiny doohickeys from your junk drawer such as marbles. The larger of the 5 side pocket could not carry my smartphone. In addition, the fabric is thin and is likely not durable, another one of the "cheap disposable clothing". I can live with the Velcro but like buttons. I preferred the old shorts but they had expired from years of use and abuse.

These are exactly what I was looking for. I was worried when I saw these are designed to be worn around the natural waist since I've got a belly and wear my pants around my hips. I'd also seen someone say they're 26" long, implying that I'd need to wear them higher than I usually do. I'm 6'6", and wear a size 44 jeans. I ordered a size 46 in anticipation of wearing them higher, but it was unnecessary. Mine are about 20" long, and just cover the knees while standing while wearing them around my hips. The rise to just above the knee while sitting, which is the ideal fit! I've just ordered two more pairs in size 44. These are perfect!

Really nice shorts, Velcro pockets and lots of them. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars are the cellphone pockets. You might tightly squeeze in some of the newer phones without a protective case but, for sure, I can't get mine in and I just have a protective case that does not cover the screen. Even if I could try to get it into the pocket with a lot of effort it would be a time consuming process to remove it. Older phones (real old ones) might fit. Mine is 3 years old and it doesn't fit! There are 3 horizontal "phone" pockets with velcro flap closures- phone won't fit in any of them. It needs one VERTICAL pocket big enough for phones. Vertical would also match the contour of your leg.

I love Wrangler shorts. They fit perfectly. I am a little disappointed that the size of the pockets is smaller than on the ones that I've bought in the past. My large phone doesn't fit in the smaller pockets.
