I’m not sure if a bird would take up residence, but I’m happy with the decor potential too. This is a fun kit for bird lovers. It included everything; pre-cut wooden parts glue, nails, and even paint for personalizing your creation. Assembly was easy and the instructions were clearly written. After assembly, I sprayed the bird house with spar polyurethane so it can withstand the weather. Looks great! I got this as a little project to work on with my daughter. We actually have a birdhouse out front and have a sparrow family that occupies the house....but after 5 or 6 seasons, it's starting to fall apart. So we put this one together, together, and pulled down the old one and used the same stuffing the birds had in the old one. Hopefully they'll take to the new one! She did a great job decorating. Only with that some of the add on parts had dowels/holes to help hold them on. There are little windows and a piece you can glue over them, but we had a really hard time keeping them on, since they're on the heavier side and all we had was glue. Seems like a small dowel would've helped secure those better. ... show more

It has some decent pine panels and with a few extras like some decent wood glue and acrylic or oil paints, this could make a really fun and cute birdhouse. I recently built this with my daughter, and it was such a great bonding experience. The kit was easy to follow, and we loved painting it together - choosing bright colors to make it stand out in the backyard. The wood was sturdy, and the pieces fit perfectly, so assembly didn’t take long at all. My daughter was so proud of her work, especially when we saw the first bird checking it out! Most of the accessories are held on by glue, so it's extremely flimsy, and one of the nails was missing. the back part comes off too easily, and it's hard to get even. I don't recommend it.

    • This is a nice kit and fun to assemble
I ordered this for my 13-year-old granddaughter who loves birds and likes to make things. I was quite impressed by the quality of the materials, and the design seems well thought-out. If I have a concern it's with the small bottle of generic white glue that's included, so I've suggested that she use a name-brand, exterior-grade adhesive when she assembles the kit. Also, since all the wooden parts appear to be made from either pine (the large panels) or birch plywood (window and door frames, flower pot, etc.) I've suggested that she'd be wise to prime all parts with oil-base KILZ or a similar exterior-grade primer before she applies the acrylic paints that come with the kit. ... show more
