It's hard to get smooth finish because the product is so thick and dries so quickly, even with multiple coats. It really brought out the beauty of the wood and made it water proof. Much better than mineral oil which always leaves the counter greasy even after extended periods of time.

John Suhr (Suhr Guitars) said that he uses this on his guitar necks. My Suhr guitar neck is not only the nicest feeling neck but it’s the nicest finish on any type of wooden surface I’ve ever felt so I knew I had to try this stuff. I put it on an unfinished neck and it feels amazing. Just follow the instructions and sand lightly between coats. It’s insanely easy to apply. I also used this on a dresser build and it’s just as easy to apply, dries really fast, and feels and looks incredible with a low sheen. This product went on clear. It brought out the character of the wood. I applied five coats to my new butcher block counters. Water just beads up. I had no issue with odor. You will NEED to wear rubber gloves as this product is NOT water soluble.

I used to redo an old work table for our kitchen. The best way to describe is that you must do a very good prep before (sanding and cleaning) before applying. It is also important to do this in layers and apply in in long strokes and when it is warm but dry. I would suggest doing a test piece before doing the main event. If done correctly it comes out very nicely, 1-3 coats with very light sanding between should make it good. I highly recommend this product, not very easy to find in stores, like most things these days ... show more

I hope that it is durable. I used on our new kitchen butcherblock counter at our cabin. 2 coats on bottom and 4 on the top side. Really liked the application method, not sure about the final coat. It doesn't lay out like a brushed on self leveling finish that I'm used to. But the application process was a snap. ... show more
