I set this up and tried it for a few seconds. No matter how tight I made the levers, the wheels slid away from the work within that time. It was obvious it wasn't going to work. Spend the extra money and get one of the circular models. I did and am very happy with it.

This steady rest tool is a little too large for my mini lathe, but it did help quite well in steadying some of my small bowls and containers to enable me to make deeper cuts into the bowls and containers, from about two inches to about four inches. I believe that a very good chuckle would work as well, but the Steady Rest and a good chuck gives much more assurance that the piece being worked on will not jump off the lathe.

Works perfectly for turning bats. Plus when I have my duplicator attached it doesn't get in the way. I need new roller wheels. Who sells the replacement roller wheels. Please let me know, I don't want to have to buy the whole thing all over again.
