This knife was recommended to me by a former chef for prep work aside from just slicing bread. This is my work horse knife for everything from veggies to carving meat at the moment. I bought this to replace the one I had purchased in the mid '80's when I worked in a commercial kitchen and used it cut fillets off slabs of North Atlantic Whitefish. I fell in love with this knife and used it extensively over the last 3 decades on many proteins (its not just for bread). I finally had to replace my old knife as the serrations had worn down. This knife seems to be of the same quality. The only downside is my original came with a protective sleeve. I use this knife every day and used the regular handle counterpart before. I love the shape and it feels comfortable. I did need to learn not to choke up on the knife but it does the job and I was happy to see when it came that it is in fact FULL TANG. It was worth it for the extra money.

I have purchased several Victorinox knives, the smaller ones are merely OK and are a bit light for me. This one is one of my favorites, along with the chef's knife. It is quite sharp and cuts through bread easily. I use it for microwaved frozen bagels that are still a bit frozen all the time, slices through them like butter. Also cuts through tough european-style rye breads with ease. I noticed some reviewers complaining about the smell from the rosewood handle, I didn't notice any smell at all. That being said, the cheaper fibrox is a better value for sure and probably better performance-wise. I have it on my chef's knife, and it has a great, non-slip soft-touch grip. I bought the rosewood on this one because I like the look, no regrets but based on my chef's knife I would recommend the fibrox as the smarter buy. I've been living a lie. This is by far the best bread knife I've ever owned. I make bread about twice a week and my other bread knife wasn't cutting it. The teeth on the blade are very close together and very sharp. Cuts through dense, crusty bread AND through light and airy bread without compressing the loaf. The blade is long and light. The rosewood handle is elegant. Not sure what kind of person would put a knife in a dishwasher, or not immediately dry a knife after hand washing it but...please, hand wash and dry your knives, including this one.
