    • Wireless CarPlay up and running in a few easy steps
The media could not be loaded. Works perfectly with my iPhone (XS) and Android (10) head unit. Installs in a few easy steps: 1) Download the Autokit app (.apk file) for installation on your head unit. I give an IMPORTANT note about this in my video toward the end. 2) Copy the .apk to a USB thumb drive and connect that to your head unit's USB port to make the file accessible to the head unit. Alternatively, you could download it directly from a browser in your head unit if it has an internet connection of its own. Use the head unit's file manager or dedicated .APK installer app to install the AutoKit app from the .apk file 3) Plug the Wireless CarPlay dongle into your head unit's USB port and then launch the AutoKit app. It will wait for your phone to connect. 4) You only need to do this step once... In your iPhone's bluetooth settings, connect to the AutoKit bluetooth device. The passcode is 0000. For the connection to work, you must have bluetooth and wifi enabled. After your phone BRIEFLY connects to the dongle by bluetooth, it will then connect to the dongle's wifi. You will see the autokit connection disconnected in bluetooth settings and connected in wifi settings. That is normal behavior. If for any reason your phone is not connecting to CarPlay by WiFi, try tapping the bluetooth connection to get it to connect again (briefly) by bluetooth and that will initiate the WiFi connection again. If WiFi is connected but CarPlay isn't working, go into your iPhone's settings, scroll down to General, then to CarPlay and tap the AutoKit entry. Make sure CarPlay is enabled. It is from here that you can also rearrange the app icons that appear on the head unit screen. This dongle and app perform very well with my phone and head unit. I take and make calls through CarPlay and use my iPhone's navigation and music apps all from the head unit screen. The benefits of CarPlay are many, but my favorite takeaways from this are: A) Wired CarPlay typically requires an OEM or at least MFi certified cable to work and those are expensive to replace when CarPlay stops working, whereas with wireless, I can stick to cheap cables for charging or even a wireless charger. B) To reap all the benefits of a GPS navigation app that's installed directly on my head unit, that would require either tethering to a WiFi hotspot on my phone, or a SIM card installed in my head unit. Both of those options require a more costly data plan than my unlimited basic plan. By contrast, using a CarPlay enabled navigation app on my iPhone doesn't cost any extra because the WiFi connection to CarPlay is not tethering. If it helps you to understand it easier, think of it this way, the phone basically connects to the dongle's hotspot, not the other way around. Your internet connection continues to come from your iPhone's data plan the same way it does when you are not connected to the internet by WiFI. ... show more
