  • Amazing for a quick AA or Carplay update for an older car.
This thing is incredible. I spent days and weeks looking at all the options on Amazon and even AliExpress to see if these are all the same or if one was really better than others. I finally decided on this one because I like the form factor and the size. My Pontiac G8 is my baby, and I love it but I have been jealous of my wife's head unit that supported AA and Carplay for awhile. My car unfortunately has the head unit attached with the a/c unit so it is a huge mess to replace the head unit. This product offered me exactly what I needed, at a reasonable price. I promptly received the display and found the two mounting options included. I always wanted to put whatever display I chose inside the cubby above my vents so that I didn't lose much windshield view. For that reason I went with the adhesive mount, but I did not use the adhesive provided. I used 2 black command strips to attach the mount. Instead of using the included charger, I used the USB cable I was previously using for my Spotify CarThing (obviously not needed anymore). This allowed me to keep my setup exactly the same with my other USB devices. I chose the Bluetooth option for audio and was amazing at how everything worked out of the box. I simply paired my phones Bluetooth with the device for AA and that's all I had to do. My phone connects to this unit for AA, but I also have a USB-AUX Bluetooth dongle that my phone plays the Bluetooth for, so it's really seamless. Bonus points for amazing support. You receive a pamphlet for an email to response to for firmware updates and even a custom boot screen. I contacted them and they responded fast considering they're 14 hours ahead in China. They offered some Pontiac options and I picked out which one. They then sent me instructions to update the firmware so that it shows the logo in my pictures. NOTE: In order to do the firmware updates, you need a 32gb U3 SD card to format. I did not have one, and you can't use the 64 gb one that comes with the unit (as far as I could tell). The only minor complaint I have is that phone calls are still a little complicated. I still turn on a Bluetooth headset to answer calls in the car, as this thing doesn't seem to support Bluetooth for calls in my experience, but it's not a deal breaker for me. I can't comment on the dashcam as I have one already and it's a bit better than the one built in. It's just a bonus if anything. The backup cam isn't installed for me either, but I also wasn't looking for one. If I add it later I'll update the review. Again, just a nice bonus. This thing looks so slick, and the installation is so simple. Stop looking around and buy this one. Now my wife is even jealous of mine since hers isn't wireless and mine is. So nice to not even have to take your phone out of your pocket when you drive somewhere. ... show more

  • Makes an old car modern! Absolute NIGHTMARE to install on a dash, though.
My car was in for service at the dealer for a week and they gave me a loaner that was a brand new 2024 Subaru Legacy. Suffice it to say, I got spoiled with the CarPlay feature, so I started looking into ways to get that in my old car. Amazon to the rescue! Pros: - Great touch screen with nice feedback sound. Fairly responsive. - Great dashcam & loop recording; nice wide angle, crisp image, etc. - 10 seconds from car power on to it playing your tunes and showing your map. Note: Once you set it up the first time, it will automatically connect. You don't need to choose CarPlay from the home screen every time it turns on. Once it's paired, it's paired. - Great sound; although I'm not sure what volume it should be set at to provide the best S/N ratio; it seems if you turn the volume all the way up, it projects through the AUX cord AND the onboard speakers, but if you turn it all the way down, you don't hear anything. - Power and AUX jacks feel solid. - Power button turns off the screen! Great feature if you don't need or want maps or need to see your music or the dashcam. Cons: - Nightmare to install on curved dash. The base is flat, so you'll notice I had to put two layers of dual lock as a buffer. Also, it's a MUST to install this with screws. I came out to my car at lunch and found it had toppled over as the weight/angle of the install made it peel itself loose. With the change of temps cold<>hot, the adhesive will not hold. It crashed to the floor when it got hot and also when it was cold. Take your time and measure & drill holes BEFORE you put the adhesive on. I made a total mess and destroyed my dash. Luckily, I finally found screws that fit the holes I drilled and now it's installed and looks great. PRO TIP: cut the adhesive out just around the screw holes. The screws and/or drill will cause the adhesive rubber to bind and wrap around and bunch up as the drill/screws turn. Not pleasant and further created chaos as I was trying to install this thing. - The ADSR is a bit gimmicky. It kept yelling at me every time I pulled up to an intersection behind a car. It doesn't know when you have your blinker on, so it yells at you when changing lanes. - Might be a target for theft; until now, there's been nothing of note to make my boring car at all attractive, and it's a manual to boot, so now, the things in it are the only draw. I hope not, but I recommend removing all the white stickers that draw attention to it. If someone does steal it, hopefully they carefully remove it from the base, as otherwise it will REALLY tear up my dash. If I'm really worried or find myself parked in a bad neighborhood, it's not too difficult to unplug, remove from the base, and stow away somewhere safe. More: - They provide generous cable length. Kind of a hassle to hide/route the wires, but I'd rather have too much than not enough. - I haven't installed the backup cam yet. I'll probably wait until Spring to do that, but I'm not looking forward to the job. - Comes with a suction cup mount (which also has adhesive). I have another one for my phone, likely from the same factory, and that thing is SOLID. In fact, I'm going to have to research how to get it off without breaking the windshield; so you can trust it will hold this. That said, if you use the suction cup, the dashcam is all but worthless since it'll take up so much of the field of view. - Might be worth buying an extra aux cord and power cord to take it with you and use elsewhere or in someone else's car. - I don't think it came with a manual, so I'll have to figure out all the ins and outs myself or email the company. From what I've read, they're quite responsive and will even provide you a custom start screen. The default one just says "Welcome." I'm extremely happy with this, despite the hour+ it took to install. A feature like this would cost hundreds if purchased from a private auto shop and to have professionally installed. It really does modernize my 2009 Subaru Legacy. A great product at a great price. If it ends up dying on me in a few months, I'll update my review. Note: the images are an assortment of angles and stages of installation. They demonstrate the curvature of the dash, how the screen looks during the day and at night, from inside and outside the car, and even the base finally and permanently installed with screws ... show more

  • I really wanted to love this but…
I wanted to transform my Gen1 Volt to have CarPlay! I was very excited to try this device. However it was a failure. Pros: Build quality is not bad Screen size is good Cons: 1- AUX is mandatory if you want to transmit the audio to the car, there is no way to use bluetooth which will make it less cluttery 2- Connecting the car to AUX won’t disable the built in cheap speaker, so you’ll always hear both speakers (also, turning the volume all the way down will affect both the car and the internal speaker) 3- Screen Mirroring is not working! No matter how many iPhones or iPads we tried it simply won’t work. 4- It’s a bummer that there is no way the device would get future firmware update. Make it impossible to address any bugs. ... show more

  • It does what it says and does it pretty well. But, that rear view camera...
I added this to an older truck that doesn't have Bluetooth audio or a backup camera. Using Android Auto, it works fine with music and navigation. Other comments say the mic for the phone is weak, I concur. I've switched back to the truck's built in Bluetooth phone system, and don't use this unit's phone capabilities. Now, the rear camera they supply is nice and clear, even at night, but has a terrible field of view. The camera is not wide-angle at all. Every camera I've ever used in a car you could see the cross traffic when backing out - not this one. Maybe I'll update it if I can find one with the same connection, or just get used to it. ... show more
