Many crimping tools are barely functional and connections often fail. Not so with these beasts! The crimp is solid and has a low likelihood of failing. Releasing the crimped product once the process is completed requires a serious and totally complete crimp, so failure mid-process is almost imposible since release the crimping tool cannot actually occur until the process is done. This is a specialized tool that is perfectly designed for the job. If I had to do it again, I’d order the upgrade which has all the styles of crimping jaws. That way, I could throw away 3 other tools and lighten my toolkit.

Not sure about the value for dollar here. The crimper itself is fairly well made and I do like the ability to swap dies without having to remove/replace two screws but the included wire cutter/stripper is kind of flimsy. I purchased this complete set because it can be difficult to find individual dies that will fit a particular crimper afterwards. The biggest problem for me, so far, is that the I purchased this primarily for the insulated flag dies as I had an HVAC project that required all three sizes: red, blue, yellow. Well, the A6 die (used for yellow flag connectors) is 100% incompatible with ANY of the yellow insulated flag connectors I have found so far and so far I've tried THREE different brands. In each case, the yellow flag is 18.2 mm long (despite the fact that each manufacturer declares it to be approximately 16.5 mm long). The red and blue flags are approximately 16.7 mm long (by measurement) while the yellow are 18.1 mm. The A6 die included with this set can only accept flags that are about the same size as the red and blue flags. The only way I can crimp the yellow flags is to remove them from their insulated jacket, crimp them, and then replace the jacket which as far as I can tell is not the correct way to crimp these connectors: you should not have to remove the insulated jacket. So either the A6 die is manufactured incorrectly or the commonly available yellow insulated flag connectors are all being manufactured incorrectly. It's too late for me to return this crimping set at this point and I bet others will face the same problem if/when they eventually need to crimp yellow insulated flags. I suppose it's possible that other dies that have been included have similar problems. ... show more
