Today the Designers Gouache range benefits from significant developments in technology and is smoother, flatter, more opaque and more brilliant than ever before. I went through the book and it’s quite lovely. Our daughter has an art degree and wanted these paints for Christmas. She hasn’t used them and she said she loves the book

  • Great price for the 10 Tube Introductory Set - Paint was Fresh in excellent condition
Style: Introductory Set 10 x 14ml
The 10 tube Introductory set was in excellent condition. Price of $25.95 was a real steal for this high quality, artist grade gouache. DId NOT have any issues with the tubes. Paint appears quite fresh. As noted by some other reviewers the red tubes did appear to be slightly runny when first opened. That happens sometimes with tube paint but it isn't fatal. None of the tubes spurted paint out. None of the tubes were dried up. The paint was fresh, mixed cleanly and painted beautifully. Delighted! Update: Some people complained that the W&N Designers Gouache did not re-wet well. So I tested it. Left the gouache in a porcelain mixing palette for 5 days to test the re-wetability of this gouache. Took an eye dropper and dropped clean distilled water on the dried gouache. Came back about 5-10 minutes later and had no trouble stirring the paint and painting with it! Colors still look super pigmented and really pop! More than delighted now! Some do say that putting 4 drops of glycerin per half pan mixed with the gouache will help it re-wet more easily. I haven't tried that, yet. ... show more

  • A quality starter's kit!
Style: Introductory Set 10 x 14ml
This is my first time using gouache and the quality is excellent! I did plenty of research prior to purchasing to make sure I picked a good brand and Winsor & Newton never fails! Unlike what I've read elsewhere, these gouache paints reactivate well once dried in a pan, so you can use them dried or fresh from the tube with no difference in quality or color saturation. The dried gouache will crumble and may come loose from the pans, however. I've read that you can honey or glycerin to keep them from getting too crumbly but I just spray them well with a mister bottle before use and they work fine. This is a wonderful starter kit with a good selection of colors! I've attached a photo of a painting I did using this gouache kit so you can see the quality of the paint on paper. I used the white gouache in this kit for color mixing only. White details on my painting were made using the Uniball Signo white gel pen. ... show more

  • Seem to be a nice quality
Style: Introductory Set 10 x 14ml
So far I feel this is a great set of gouache. It’s the first set I have purchased that was moderately priced. I’m still learning to mix color and I’m hoping this set will be enough for decent color mixing. I will buy individual tubes as I need them. I swatched the colors and they all cover nicely with the exception of the colors that are normally not fully opaque. ... show more

  • smooth & bold!!
Style: Introductory Set 10 x 14ml
These pigments dilute easily, apply easily, and give results which are smooth and bold like you'd expect from quality gouache. This is excellent value for a fairly comprehensive starter kit from a very respected brand -- you would easily pay double at a local shop. Works great with both hot-press and cold-press paper. Dilutes cleanly/evenly, very smooth They're a joy to work with. ... show more

  • Primary Red, packed incorrectly
Style: Introductory Set 10 x 14ml
Windsor Newton Designers Gouage set: I received TWO tubes of Spectrum Red . No Primary Red. This package was plastic wrapped and not opened, it was packed incorrectly. Needed complete set for a workshop...bummer. Otherwise, good value for the money.

  • Great Quality!
Style: Introductory Set 10 x 14ml
I was interested in gouache after seeing a couple of my favorite illustrators paint with gouache. I didn't want to splurge and buy a super expensive set, but I also didn't want to buy the student grade paint because I didn't want to be discouraged if I didn't get the expected results. The colors are vibrant, creamy, and the creaminess is consistent with every paint tube. This set is so amazing that gouache has now become my second favorite medium! ... show more
