Features

  • Exceptionally resilient and durable, our watercolor paper will not warp or cockle even when saturated with large volumes of water
  • Made on a traditional cylinder mold. This ensures the fibers are interwoven, which gives the paper far greater strength and dimensional stability
  • Internally and externally sized for optimal water absorbency, pigment dispersion and lasting colour adherence
  • Cold pressed paper has a less textured finish and produces the brightest paintings. Its increased surface area holds more color and rejects more light
  • Our classic paper is constructed with 100 Percent cellulose wooden pulp with pure spring water. 12 Sheets per pad

Description

Classic pads are made with 100% archival grade cellulose wood pulp and natural artesian well spring water with neutral ph properties. Cold pressed paper has a less textured finish and is the most widely used paper surface. This paper often produces the brightest water colour paintings because its increased surface area holds more colour and therefore reflects more light.

  • It’s a great paper, but there was definitely a learning curve.
Size: 9" x 12" Style: Side Glued
This is a great paper just a different texture than I’m used to. I like a smoother finish. I’m loving the water movement and new process of painting on this paper.

  • Good watercolor paper
Size: 9" x 12" Style: Side Glued
Very nice paper - especially for the cost. May still use Arches for gifts or commissions, but will definitely order this paper again.

  • Does still buckle
Size: 9" x 12" Style: Side Glued
Nice paper but does still buckle when it’s wet using wet on wet technique. Still have to try it wet on dry.

  • My new BFF!
Size: 11" x 14" Style: Side Glued
I love to try all different kinds of paper from around the world. I picked this up and I was very impressed with the quality. Some days are for Arches & some days I need W&N paper. Go for it!!

  • I thought it was me, but no it's the paper
Size: 9" x 12" Style: Side Glued
I bought this paper thinking W&N was a high-quality brand but found this paper sooooo hard to work with. The water beads on it rather than absorbing, making for a frustrating painting experience. This is presumably because its only 25% cotton. I now mostly use this paper for swatching and testing. I much prefer Arches 300gsm cold or rough press, or Hanhnemuhle Harmony (which is a "student" grade paper but much easy to work with). ... show more

  • Good paper for watercolor
Size: 9" x 12" Style: Side Glued
Over the years I got very fussy about watercolor paper. I like100% cotton, cold press, 140lb (300g, this is a measurment of the thickness of the paper) and even French Arches kind of displeased me and I settled on Italian Fabriano. The paper is pretty pricey There was no good "second choice." However, this tablet, 25% cotton is about half the cost and works pretty well. I did some combination watercolor pencil and paint pictures and was very happy with the texture and the work-up of the paper. Cutting the sheets into quarters, it's even more cost-effective. (One way to save money on painting is to do small works called "ACEO" which are playing card sized sketches. They are fun to do, almost addictive and you get plenty of practice in while saving on whole sheets of paper.) So for students, this is a very decent paper at a decent cost. I like a slightly rougher texture (this is fine grain) but if you are using watercolor pencils instead of tube or cake paint, it's actually better to use this fine grain. If you are doing a lot of layers, and a lot of picking up of laid-down paint, scrubbing or texture with a blade, I wouldn't suggest this paper as it's less rugged than 100% cotton. If you like to sketch outdoors or on the go, cutting these up into quarters or long halves for quick sketches fits them into your painting kit, possibly in a fanny pack or small camera type bag. ... show more

  • Almost as bad as Canson.....nope, it's worse!
Size: 11" x 14" Style: Side Glued
1 step up from Strathmore.....oh wait that's Canson's spot. So, Canson gets a bump down, as W&N Classic is 25% cotton(deceptive ad does not include this in description) NOT 100%. Arches for the win! Hahnem.....forgot how to spell it. The one with the red cock on it......collection is very good also.
