  • Quietest AC I've Owned
Set name: 12000 BTU WhisperTech
I've lived in NYC all my life and have used many ACs over that time including those that claim to be whisper quiet. There have been none that live up to that name except for this one. It installs in minutes, like 5 minutes! So easy a caveman could do it. It looks great in the window ( see attached photo) . and once you turn it on and let it run for 5 or 10 minutes it quiets down o the point where you barely recognize it's on. I use it to cool my entire 2 bedroom apartment and love that when it is on I cannot hear it all in my bedroom which I leave the door open and use a tower fan to bring the cold air to me. At first you will hear not the typical loud humming of an average AC which never gets any loqwer, but a sort of buzzing sound. Thhis will be noticeable for about 5 or 10 minutes as the AC begins to cool the room. After this time that sound will go almost inaudible and all you will hear and very low wooshng of thefan if set at low. In fact if set at low you might not even hear the fan at all. The buzzing gets barely audible if you are in the same room and unnoticeable in other rooms. And unlike other ACS when it cycles on and off there is no noticeable big shaking of the window pane or in the walls. It just goes on, the buzzing starts and then goes away. The longer it stays on the quieter it gets. So as far as the AC is concerned , it's great. Cools 900 square in 30 minutes at high fan which i then turn down to low. Is very very quiet, and looks super clean in the window. I'd say buy this one. My only negative about this AC is the Wifi App to turn it on and off remotely. When I first installed it, it worked fine. I was able to turn the AC on or regulate the temperature when i was at work to get ready for my arrival and turn it down or off when i was out. Very handy indeed! I loved it. However it stopped working, and when i tried to re-install and reconnect , well lets just say after 5 or 6 attempts ( and I'm very tech savvy) i got frustrated and deleted it all my data. Kudos on the AC but fix the APP to make this a super special Air Conditioer ... show more

  • Great and quiet a/c unit!!
Set name: 10000 BTU WhisperTech
1st bought the 8,000 BTU whisper tech for our bedroom last summer and we love this a/c so much that hubby and I got the 10,000 BTU whisper tech version for our living room! In comparison to the older a/c units we had in our apartment (3 a/c’s were graciously left behind when we bought our apartment), windmill whisper tech is very soft and quiet—even on the highest fan settings and on cool mode. I love being able to turn on both a/c’s remotely through their app a few hours before coming home and to enter into a significantly cooler apartment after a hot NYC summer day. I also truly enjoy the sleek design and the 45* upward fan that helps to make the room feel cooler faster rather than a standard a/c blasting just one area and that area being very cold. Installation is very intuitive and easy with all the tools you need to make it a breeze (including a nice pair of scissors for the sleek side panels)! Especially after setting up our first one, it takes about 20-30 minutes to set up and use right away—if you need to install a/c brackets, add some more time. If you able to splurge the extra money for the whisper tech a/c’s—especially if people are sleeping where this a/c will be—it is very worth it! I have observed that the set temperature may be slightly off from the actual output or readings in the room (ex: a/c temps are set to 68*, it says that the room temp is 74* but external temp reader reads the room at 76*). This is not a huge deal breaker for me as long as the apartment feels and is under 80* but it may be something to keep an eye on over time. Overall a very solid unit and looks sleek and works very well for me and my hubby’s needs. He is a light sleeper compared to me and is sound asleep while running this a/c! ... show more

  • Buyer beware - Windmill's warranty has some pretty sketchy FINE PRINT
Set name: 10000 BTU WhisperTech
The product is modern, very quiet and looks great YET about 4-5 weeks into its "life" it has TWICE unexpectedly made a LOUD clunk, shut down and restarted. I am not an expert on AC units but I would guess this a sign of a defect in either the compressor or invertor. To be clear, this is twice in perhaps a 8-16 hour span of its operation. After providing Windmill with all of the necessary documentation and description of the problem, Windmill has notified me they are a small company and they can NOT honor their warranty unless I can provide VIDEO documentation of the problem. This would make sense if a unit began squealing, spewing out smoke, making continuous loud rattling sounds but WHO is going to sit next to an AC for hours or tens of hours waiting to capture an obvious mechanical flaw on video? Now the weather here in the Northeast has turned to Autumn, the only option I have is to take the unit out of the window, store it for the winter and reinstall it in the Spring ... hoping the defect eventually becomes predictable and commonplace enough to video it. To be clear, Windmill is NOT doubting nor disputing my claim but rather standing behind their policy that they cannot and will not provide warranty service without VIDEO evidence. Therefore my recommendation is to buy one of their 10,000 BTU units if and only if you want a quiet and efficient AC which may or may not develop a mechanical defect within a few weeks ... which Windmill will refuse to service under warranty. I own TWO of their units, have experienced a problem with one of them (in less than two months of intermittent use) and simply don't have the funds to play Russian Roulette with my next AC purchase. Perhaps something positive can be said about the huge appliance manufacturers who WILL stand behind their product. Something to think about: Would you buy a new car from a manufacturer who - when you report the car unexpectedly "loses its steering" every 400 miles or so told you they would honor their warranty if and only if you provided video evidence of this occurring??? If you think this example is extreme ... are you confident my Windmill AC will not create an electrical fire which burns my house? MY suggestion: If you are buying a Windmill AC unit, first compare the model number and serial number to see if either closely resembles mine and think twice about whether you want to spend your money for a product with a VERY seller-biased warranty ... show more

  • Updated third season review/ new 5000 btu unit addition
Set name: 8000 BTU
The two 8000 but units that we purchased have worked well this last season. They are reasonably quiet compared to the window ac units we've had over the years. What I really like is that the cool air comes out the top instead of in your face. It circulates the air better and no shutters to clean or break. They are as easy to install as any standard window unit, and the side panels make for a neat installed look. The app is good, though both units had instances where the room temp display froze up on the app and wouldn't update until the units were unplugged, then plugged back in. Otherwise the app is pretty informative. The remote works fine, but as it's an infrared unit the range is limited. The magnetically held filter cover is pretty trick, and the filter is the same type as you'd find in a split system, plus the charcoal filter. After running them this summer I'm impressed. They're not perfect, but nothing ever is in this world. If the app was flawless, and with an rf remote it would have earned 5 stars. Update: Both 8000 btu units are in their third season and running fine. The app works well enough that I don't know where the remotes are, and I can adjust them anywhere my Wifi signal reaches. With one unit on each floor of our tree shaded 1400 sq. ft. Cape they keeps things nice and cool in temps up to the upper 90's. They look good, work well, and have held up just fine. I took a chance with a relatively new manufacturer and it paid off. I'd buy them again. Update: I ordered a new 5000 btu unit for one bedroom that was tucked away and so far it's worked well. The room is about 150 sq. ft, in size, and it cools the room down very quickly. The assembly instructions were clear and easy to understand. The top rail goes on with a few screws, then the thick accordion panels slide into the sides, and the frames are pushed into the rails. Thats it. It has the same minimalist look but it's a little different from the larger units. The cool air exits from the top front which swivels from straight out to upward, and a small lever to adjust it from side to side. The display is nice and bright and goes blank after a time delay. I did have an issue with the filter. It was hard to insert into the side of the unit, so I reached out to product support. They responded quickly and sent instructions to make it easier to install. It's only been installed for a couple of weeks and so far I'm pretty happy with it. It linked to the app right away, it's nice and quiet and cools the room in a jiffy. 5000 btu ac unit Update: I contacted Windmill about the filter installation issue and they responded that night. They shipped me a new filter after a couple of weeks that's designed to be easier to install, and it works! Now it slides right in with no issues. Our cooling season has pretty much ended up north so the units will be stored for next season. The 8k btu units are still working flawlessly, and the 5k btu unit is working fine with the filter upgrade. ... show more

  • User friendly, good customer service.
Set name: 12000 BTU WhisperTech
Easy to install, very user friendly. Easy to set up app. Unfortunately my unit was one that started making a loud motor noise, which you might see in some other reviews. However they have really good customer service. After sending a few videos they sent me a replacement! Francesca and Rachel and others were very responsive and nice. The new unit is nice and quiet (video). Make sure you register your unit and let them know if you have any issues within the first year! Hopefully this one keeps running smoothly. Note it blows out the top, not the front. Possibly a bit less efficient/cooling than others due to this, so make sure you actually pay attention to the size suggestions and get the right size for your space. ... show more

  • ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exceptional Product and STELLAR Customer Service
Set name: 8000 BTU
I've been a satisfied owner of two Windmill AC units – an 8000 BTU and a 6000 BTU – and my experience with these products and the company's customer service has been nothing short of outstanding. Product Performance: I purchased my first Windmill AC unit (8000 BTU) on April 26, 2022, and it has been an essential part of my home's climate control system. This unit not only cools efficiently but also operates quietly, which is perfect for a peaceful home environment. The second unit (6000 BTU) I bought on May 23, 2023, works flawlessly in another room, providing consistent cooling without any issues. Advanced Integration: I have an advanced setup in my apartment using Alexa automation to monitor various sensors. These sensors track indoor temperatures, weather forecasts, and my location to optimize the AC settings. This ensures my home is at the perfect temperature when I arrive from work. The setup was seamless, and the Windmill AC units perform flawlessly within this system. It's been a lot of fun dialing it in, and the units are incredibly reliable. Customer Service: Recently, I encountered an unusual issue with my 8000 BTU unit. Despite being out of the standard one-year warranty, the customer service team at Windmill, particularly Lois, went above and beyond to assist me. They suggested various troubleshooting steps and were very patient as we worked through the issue. I will mention that appliances these days use computer boards and I have an extended warranty on my other unit and do recommend others consider the benefits. When the problem persisted, they offered to replace my unit as a gesture of goodwill. This level of customer care is rare and highly appreciated. The replacement process was incredibly smooth, and the new unit was shipped promptly. Their communication throughout the process was exceptional, making the entire experience stress-free. Final Thoughts: Windmill has earned my loyalty through their high-quality products and exceptional customer support. If you’re looking for an efficient, quiet, and smart-compatible AC unit, Windmill is the way to go. The seamless setup and outstanding customer service make it a worthwhile investment. Recommendation: I wholeheartedly recommend Windmill AC units to anyone looking for a reliable and efficient cooling solution. Their product quality and support team are second to none. I'll be sharing my positive experience on every review platform possible because they truly deserve it. Thank you, Windmill, for not only providing great products but also for standing behind them with such amazing customer service. ... show more

  • Decent unit, but…🤔
Set name: 6000 BTU
I own several Midea U shape 8k btu units. They are truly AC/DC Inverter air conditioners. This 6K BTU; Windmill unit isn’t an inverter type AC. The fan speed rpm’s, do ramp up and down at a fixed rate, not truly variable. The compressor is NOT variable speed, it is on and off. Aesthetically, the unit looks great. The noise level is definitely louder than a full inverter type ac. I purchased this windmill unit for my kitchen window. Aesthetically it looks great, exactly what I wanted. It does keep the 150 square-foot area comfortable, just a bit noisy. The directed airflow output being on top instead of in front was also another key reason I bought this unit. Overall, it’s a decent unit and does exactly what I need for this space. Has a great look, distributes the air overhead evenly, with no visible vents. Aesthetics is definitely this units strength. Cons: A little noisy and NOT AC/DC inverter technology type ac. Would I buy this unit again? For this particular application, No! GET THE 8k! It’s true inverter technology. Next year, I’ll be replacing this unit with an 8k. I’ll give Windmill another try with a full blown smart inverter technology unit. ... show more

  • So easy to install
Set name: 6000 BTU
Just what I needed for a hot upstairs bedroom. This took me under 20 minutes to install. I admit I didn’t bother reading the instructions either. So simple. I’ve had it almost 2 months and I love it. Cools a decent size master bedroom and is not loud at all. I’m sleeping great. Best part…I can lay in bed and use my phone app to control the unit. I don’t regret the purchase. ... show more
