We've been using this microwave for close to six months now, and so far so good. We like the simple design with the rotary dials and really love the ease of not having to deal with the spinning plate. The interior is spacious and easy to clean. We only ever use the time knob, never the power level knob, and we certainly don't miss all the different buttons on our previous over-the-range microwave that died. (We're remodeling the kitchen and figured we could replace this one about five times for the price of just one drawer microwave.) If you are looking for a gorgeous exterior for a highly visible spot in your kitchen, this might not be the best bet, but I rather like the retro, convenience-store aesthetic. It doesn't strike me as any louder than our old GE Profile microwave, but the fan does continue to run for a minute or two longer after one finishes cooking some items--I think mostly things that put off steam or that take a while to cook. If that helps the unit last longer then it seems like a fair enough trade-off. The unit seems solidly made and heats the food evenly in a reasonable amount of time. The only question is how long it lasts. We're two empty-nesters, so my expectation at this price point (I paid about $250) is a good long time. ... show more

EMW-1000SD w/Dial Control 1000w.I wanted something simple but ROBUST! Hoping it will last as long as my Panasonic inverter microwave did about 12 years. Mine had no chid safety, this new microwave doesn't either. This one has no turntable which concerned me. It has a motor driven bottom energy feed system and the bottom base is a ceramic plate. Heat comes completely from the bottom up on all sides and a fan circulates inside for even efficient heat. Cooked a 3.29 0z bag of popcorn in 2.40 minutes at 100% and almost every colonel popped. every thing I have heated up, Oatmeal, frozen vegetables in a glass dish, leftover rice, chicken , vegetables has been heated on all sides evenly without a doubt. I use a microwave plate on base or glass casserole dish, no problem, with a microwave lid also. After cooking the fan will continue to run until unit cools down, doesn't bother me. Noise isn't really that big a deal to me and it's only a little louder which comes from the Robust Fan. Knobs are simple, no buttons. Top dial for cook power level 0-(hold) 10- (Defrost)-40-50-80-100. Bottom knob turns to set time and then push in knob like a button and cooking starts. Pushing the knob button again will stop the cooking or opening the door will stop the cooking. Whatever time is left will remain until you push the knob button again to start cooking again and run out the time. 60 minutes is max allowed time. I only heat or warm up food, nothing long term. All Stainless on inside Top and Sides. I paid around $275 plus a 3 year Asurian warranty for about $30. Only time will tell if it was worth it. This model I believe is a closeout so whatever is out there is it. The next model has buttons and is about $100 more. Shorted out and ran when the door was open. Warranty program was too cumbersome to warrant going through the process. I purchased two for different locations and they both had the same outcome at the same time.

I tried to order one from a different website but the only one they had was dented. So I paid a little more from Amazon and it arrived dented. I think the shipping box should be more sturdy. I was able to remove the stainless exterior panel and pound the dent out and reinstall. Looks OK, works fine. Coolest feature is that the microwave antenna rotates rather than having a carousel. This is standard on commercial microwaves. There is no clock if that's important to you. You can set power level to zero and use the display as a timer. Most commercial microwaves have programmable buttons, which save time in a business setting, but I prefer the simplicity of this unit for home use. Pros: Heavy - opening the door doesn't slide the microwave Stainless and ceramic interior Adjust time/power while cooking Simple to use Cons: Fans will sometimes run after cooking to cool components, which is good, but can trick you into thinking your food is not done if you missed the beep Doesn't cook as fast as outgoing 1100W unit, however, the extra cooking time results in more uniform cooking More expensive - I paid $302.01 including tax and shipping on Amazon, which is more than double a consumer 1000W microwave. This is a niche microwave. Only buy if you are willing to pay double to get rid of the carousel and you want to control power and time with the fewest controls. They do have it with a programmable button interface which would be better for most restaurant use cases. ... show more

When we first used it, we noticed that the magnetron is very loud and there was a very loud metal rattling noise when it kicked in. The unit worked fine for a day and then it wouldn’t shut off at the end of a cycle. No matter what i did with the dials/start/stop button, it would act like it would stop cooking and then start backup within a few seconds, even opening the door didn’t stop it from cooking (which was unnerving to say the least). Ended up unplugging it. The unit is too expensive for such poor quality. Very disappointed as it was a Christmas gift for my mom who suffers from low vision and can’t easily use a microwave with a lot of buttons. ... show more
