  • Would get 5 stars but arrived dented
Size: .9 Cubic Feet Style: 1,000 W (Dial)
I tried to order one from a different website but the only one they had was dented. So I paid a little more from Amazon and it arrived dented. I think the shipping box should be more sturdy. I was able to remove the stainless exterior panel and pound the dent out and reinstall. Looks OK, works fine. Coolest feature is that the microwave antenna rotates rather than having a carousel. This is standard on commercial microwaves. There is no clock if that's important to you. You can set power level to zero and use the display as a timer. Most commercial microwaves have programmable buttons, which save time in a business setting, but I prefer the simplicity of this unit for home use. Pros: Heavy - opening the door doesn't slide the microwave Stainless and ceramic interior Adjust time/power while cooking Simple to use Cons: Fans will sometimes run after cooking to cool components, which is good, but can trick you into thinking your food is not done if you missed the beep Doesn't cook as fast as outgoing 1100W unit, however, the extra cooking time results in more uniform cooking More expensive - I paid $302.01 including tax and shipping on Amazon, which is more than double a consumer 1000W microwave. This is a niche microwave. Only buy if you are willing to pay double to get rid of the carousel and you want to control power and time with the fewest controls. They do have it with a programmable button interface which would be better for most restaurant use cases. ... show more

  • today's consumer microwave ovens waste your time and burn your house down
Size: .9 Cubic Feet Style: 1,000 W (Dial)
Like with coffee machines, save your sanity and get a commercial model. Winco is also known as Spectrum Commercial Microwave. After reading many horror stories (reviews) of consumer grade microwaves, the house fires they caused, I realized the bean counters had cheapened the design such that all the consumer brands sold now were unsafe junk (they'll set your house on fire at 3am- that's right, spontaneously turning on with nothing to cook, venting flames and sparks). The Winco EMW-1000SD is the heaviest microwave I've ever owned. Build quality is commercial- that is to say extremely good and stainless steel inside and out. The bottom inside is a ceramic plate. Very easy to clean and no paint to peal off. This is not cheap plastic junk. The controls are a dream- simply power and time knobs. Not some crazy remote control looking panel with most buttons never used. Like I was hoping, the time knob is exponential in response, spin it faster and it greatly increases the time increment- getting to 60 minutes is easy and faster than a keypad. There is no rotating plate to futz with or waste space (they rotate the microwave field instead). The 0.9 cu. ft is more like a 1.2 cu ft consumer model due to no plate and rotating mechanism. It's rated at 1000 watts, but it performs like a 1500 watt consumer model. Heating a half gallon of distilled water (for my commercial Bloomfield pour over coffee machine) takes 20 minutes from to go from 38deg F to boiling! The old "800 watt" microwave took 75 minutes... I do power electronics design (up to 1 megawatt) and if you want something to last, you derate the components to 25% of max rating. It may cost more, but it will not fail. A microwave oven is no different. It's obvious by the heavy weight of one side, that they put in a very large magnetron, and are running it at a fraction of full power. A proper design technique none of the consumer models use anymore. The consumer inverter designs are a joke, and I wouldn't be surprised if they are running the power electronics at 75% or more of max... no wonder they fail and possibly catch your house on fire. Magnetrons are the way to go as it's a time proven technology. Best part is, this costs less than many of the so called highend consumer microwaves (and won't burn your house down- did I mention this is a very important feature to have?- the lack of setting your house on fire). I did not get this from Amazon. Word to the sellers here- this can be had for $210-$225 elsewhere (including tax and shipping), so get your price down if you want to be competitive. ... show more

  • Easy to use, hope this is a long term relationship
Size: .9 Cubic Feet Style: 1,000 W (Dial)
I found this Winco Spectrum commercial microwave while searching for a better oven. My main priority was to find a simpler design without the busy control panel. With this oven you twist the knob to set cooking duration, then press it and off you go. You can adjust the time in either direction while it is running. If you want to alter the power setting there's a second knob above and you can adjust it at any time as well. Also, there is no annoying clock to set because: no clock. This microwave operates in a manner reminiscent of our first microwave but even better. If you have cooked something substantial the fan will automatically keep running after the cooking ends whether the door is open or not. And the fan keeps running until the oven has cooled down enough and then shuts off. This may be one factor towards a longer lifespan. Our earliest microwave lasted more than 3 decades and it was heavily used. Cooking with this Spectrum oven tells me there was never any unique advantage in having a revolving turntable to set your food on as is found in most consumer machines today. This microwave oven has a flat ceramic bottom and takes care of cooking evenness from beneath this surface with "... a unique motor-driven bottom antenna for efficient energy distribution". I think this is the better arrangement as the completely flat surface should be easier to clean. The sides and ceiling of the oven cavity are stainless steel so no peeling paint. I have four dead microwaves in my basement as I write this, and disposed of 2 others prior to these. A total of 6 microwave ovens all dead one by one over a period of 16 years. Two of them caught fire. Here's hoping this commercial microwave will do far better. I will report back as time goes on. ... show more
