Sony MRW-S1 UHS-II USB 3.0 reader/Writer for SD cards enables the fast transfer of data from SD cards via a fast USB3.1 Gen1 Interface. Able to read/write to UHS-II and backward compatible with UHS-1 SD cards, the MRW-S1 makes reading from cards faster than using the computer's SD card slot by using the faster USB 3.0 connector on most current computers and laptops. Using a USB 3.0 interface, the reader can read UHS-II cards up to the read/write capability of the SD card inserted and the USB connected computer speed and capabilities. Using the MRW-S1 can help speed up the work and reduce the waiting time. Designed with the newly announced Sony UHS-II SF-G series SD cards In mind (with speeds up to 300MB/s read and 299MB/s write), the MRW-S1 can make short time of transferring/reading files to the computer.

FAST. FAST. FAST! I transitioned away from SanDisk to Sony's latest G series SD cards for my Fujifilm X-T2 camera because they're faster and slightly better value. Once i finally replaced my iMac with a current model, i bought this and the Kingston Memory branded reader that's a similar size and format since the SD reader on the iMac is in a ridiculous spot on the back of the machine. obviously you need UHS-II cards and USB 3 or better ports to use this reader at its full potential, but once you do you'll never go back. this is by far the fastest, most reliable way to get large amounts of images and footage out of your camera and onto disk for editing. the cap is nice for protecting the USB plug during travel but, since it's unattached, will likely end up lost along the way. my only complaint would be the use of a USB 3.0 plug instead of the latest USB 3.1 Type-C plug, forcing me to use an adapter to work with my macbook pro. if you can get it on sale, it's worth it. if not, the Kingston reader is a similar size and nearly as fast for a lot less money. ... show more

I had been using uhs i for a couple years, until it dawned on me that the new SD cards I upgraded to were uhs ii. Most of the card readers out there have a USB C connection, but my tower's only port was already occupied. This was the only really reputable card reader that granted USB standard connection to my tower. Running a test on the same large video file, I got a 3X speed increase with this uhs ii reader. This reader great, it really is very high speed when using my Sony UHS-2 cards. But, there is no dust cap for the card opening. It collected pocket lint which wrapped around the contacts inside. I destroyed it trying to get the lint out, because the contacts came out with the lint. Don't carry it in your pocket! It's extremely fast and it works reliably, but with standard SD and microSD cards I have had Windows 10 say the card isn't readable and ask to format it. Other times it works fine with the standard SD cards. I recommend only using this with UHS-II cards, the ones with extra metal contacts on the bottom. If Plug and Play was ever a misnomer, it applies to digital cameras. I hate plugging my camera in to transfer photos, it's slow and clunky and Wi-Fi transfer is even worse. Now you have the MRW-S1. This is such a fast reader and hugely affects my quality of life. It's small enough to be portable on the go which is great for vacations. Additionally, I can now charge the batteries for my RX1RII (if you own this camera you know it eats batteries like crazy) and GRII while transferring files at the same time. Build quality is excellent like most Sony products and the cover snaps on with a satisfying click. My only wish is that it had a slot for a micro SD card since I sometimes cannot find my adaptor for my micro SD cards. 5 stars regardless. ... show more

As a filmmaker I have to deal with Terabytes of data on regular base, and Backing up files at the end of the day is a mission critical task. As I shoot A LOT in SD cards I noticed that the backup was taking too long to read the darn cards filled with data. So a quick test on my laptop SD card reader and on a cheap transcend reader reveled that I had a bottleneck. Fast reader are expensive but this one is reasonable and FAST! I went from 90 kbs to 263 / 277 kbs. 3 x faster (ish). Whic did cut by backups by a third of the time they used to. NOW I'm copying the SD cards to an SSD drive that sustains 500mbs write speed. So if you are copying to a regular spin disk your speed will be limited by the receiving hard drive. Overall quite satisfied with the purchase. If you need a faster UHS-II SD card reader. This one is a sure thing. The SD card I used for benchmarking was the Sony TOUGH 128GB V60. I don't have a V90 to test, sorry. ... show more

Works as expected most of the time. Sometimes the write speed is lower than expected but that could be the fault of the card. I did a speed test using black magic disk speed test app. Two cards tested: Sony M series 128GB UHS-II SDXC (R: 260MB/s, W: 100MB/s) and Lexar 64GB UHS-II SDXC (1000x / 150MB/s) Sony: Read 80 / Write 222 Lexar: Read 63 / Write 139 Other than that, SD cards are easy to insert and remove and cap securely enough. ... show more
