  • Exactly what it should be.
I ordered this just before Christmas. It arrived about three weeks early. Took about a week to get here. It was well packed. Foam inside a box, then another box with foam outside that. It's heavy.. .no joke.. I rebuilt the shelf in the picture with real birch wood to support the weight. The MDF bowed. It's well made. Looks fantastic. Sounds even better. I am running Martin Logan motion 15's which are nothing for this amp. I am using my Marantz as my DAC and only using the PRE-INPUTS on the Willsenton. This allows me to control the volume through the Marantz. The remote on the Willsenton is well made but there is not enough control over volume. (Moves in too large of an increment.) Finally, this thing gets hot. You could easily heat a small room. That's the case with any tube amp though. But if you want something high quality that doesn't break the bank this is it. I think you would have to spend many times this amount to get the warmth that this unit produces. I love listening to John Coltrane, or Kenny Dorham, or even Norah Jones. It's just sooo smoooth... ... show more

  • Very very very heavy
Use as intended, great sound, great potential to roll tubes for even better sound. I replaced all the tubes with better sounding units. Psvane Acme series 300B and 805, Sophia Aqua 274B, Psvane CV181, these units greatly improved the character of the music becoming much more lifelike. A greater soundstage with more depth and clarity, the notes have a sustained presence. Vocals now feel like they are in my room, horns are also devine. To this point, I am very impressed. I own Audio Research D 79,SP10, McIntosh MC60 mono blocks, Ampzilla, Precision Fidelity C4, NAD, Willsenton R8, and more ... show more

  • Huge Hum Noise
I just received the R800i, as soon as put it on noticed a huge hum noise, try it xlr, single ended and as a power amp. I have a true balanced DAC and it will not work with the R800i, the xlr input are not true balanced. It's not my first tube gear, the hum balancer doesn't do anything (the screw diver is missing), will give it a couple of days to see if it miraculous improve, after that will send it back. Not happy at all with this amp. ... show more

  • So impressed with this tube amplifier
Very happy with this purchase, great sound quality, notably nicer than my Yaqin Mc-13s push pull tube amp, clean background, no hum or hiss or anything. Great build quality, nice finish, looks top-tier high-end hifi gear! Highly recommended!!!

  • Amazing Tube Amplifier…. No matter where it’s made.
I purchased this amplifier to break into the tube amp world without needing to second mortgage my house. As it turns out, right out of the box, it is an outstanding amplifier! Super dark sound levels, no hum, no popping and even with what I would consider a stock value tube set, it is voiced extremely well. I have rolled some tubes through it now and have a few hundred hours on the amplifier. The tubes have added a little more detail, realism to cymbals and the upper midrange. Voices come through with an authentic presentation and soundstage. Everything feels in the music that it is exactly where it should be. Something my $6000 Solid State amplifier doesn’t pull off as well. I just have zero complaints about it. An absolute bargain at the selling price here! BTW…. A lot of time and effort went into developing the shipping materials for this 105lb behemoth! If it’s possible, UPS will find a way to damage it in shipping but in all fairness to the manufacturer, they did an excellent job! I can’t imagine how it could have been packaged any better. ... show more

  • The best deal on the planet! 45 Class A Single Ended Watts
Single ended Class A can be an expensive topology to implement right. When it is done right, it's sublime and seductive. Push pull amps have to split the audio signal and have it meet back up. Single Ended amps do not mess with the signal that way. the 805 tube driven by 300Bs with the wonderful 6sn7 in the gain stage is something to hear. This amp is truly a beast. It's 100lbs. Before we go saying things about where it's made and making judgments, we should unbox it, feel it, and listen to it. This is a borderline reference level amp. If you love music and hifi, you owe it to yourself to take the plunge on this. The only downsides are that it is super heavy (need two people to lift it), it can heat up a smaller room, and its remote control makes too big of steps in volume attenuation. The upsides are spellbinding sound quality, superb build and fit and finish, and great tube compliment with good rolling choices. Highly, highly recommended. I adore this guy and I have lots of experience with quality tube amplification. Unreal value for the money and it would be worth the purchase even at $7,500. ... show more

  • Really good amp, regardless of price
I didn't buy this from Amazon but I like it enough that I wanted to share a positive experience. It has displaced a Conrad Johnson tube amp that retailed for $8K. And it bested a Quicksilver GLA tube amp as well. Very liquid and smooth, great soundstage.
