  • Make sure you have a long neck oil funnel.
Style: Electric Start (4750W)
The generator arrived earlier than expected yesterday (2/23/21). It was already late in the evening when I got home to work on it so I didn't do a full run to break it in, but I did get everything set up and run it for about 20 minutes or so off a propane tank and it ran great. Way quieter than other generators I've used. As other reviewers have mentioned, first thing you need to do after opening the box is remove the red shipping brackets under the motor. This isn't too difficult if you just tip the generator on its side or back and use a little ratchet and wrench. The instructions say that it should arrive with the negative (-) electrical wire already attached because it's positioned close to the wheel, however mine wasn't. Both wires were loose, so I had to connect both of the wires, which again was no problem using a standard ratchet kit. The wheel kit is easy enough to install and makes moving it around considerably easier. While the unit is still heavy at 100+ pounds, it's way easier to move around than larger generators. The trickiest part was putting in the oil. I bought some full synthetic 5w-30 oil for mine because I want to make sure it lasts a nice long time so I wanted to run full synthetic right from the start. Where you need to pour in the oil is set in quite a bit further than the wheel and frame, so there will be things in your way when trying to fill the reservoir. You will definitely want to have a funnel with a long neck, or one that can be adjusted to reach an awkward position. I wound up tilting mine slightly to the side and holding it there while I used a long-neck funnel to pour the oil in, though I'm sure this would have been considerably easier if I had one with a stretchy or adjustable neck. Once everything was set up and the oil was in I hooked up the propane tank with the provided hose attachment and followed the instructions on the quick-start guide. Everything started up and ran perfectly. To test it out and give it a tiny bit of a break in I hooked up my circular saw and pulled the trigger a few times randomly. It had no trouble handling it. Running off propane the generator was also quite a bit quieter and emitted way less exhaust than a standard gasoline engine. It's important to remember Propane will only net you about 3500 running watts, a bit less than running on gasoline, but it has the benefits of running cooler, quieter, and keeping the engine and carburetor cleaner. 3,500 is also enough power to handle a standard 1,500 watt electric space heater, tv, and charging station at the same time without any trouble which is all I plan on using it for should another major storm hit again. The instruction booklet also has a table listing the standard wattages for most common home appliances so you can use this to help figure out how much power any items you plug in might draw. After being without power for 5 days I don't ever want to be in that situation again so I plan on taking care of this generator to make sure we're ready for any future power outages. Even though I haven't used it for a long term test yet I'm already feeling better having it around and knowing how easy it was to get started and running. ... show more

  • Great generator
Style: Electric Start (4750W)
Hello this WEN DF475T Dual Fuel 120V/240V Portable Generator with Electric Start worked perfectly. I had been looking at generators off and on for years but never got one. Our power company gave notice they were going to be doing some service upgrade to the area and power would be off for 8 hours. So i purchased this Wen model. I decided to power it with propane, a 20 pound bottle you can get in front of a lot of quick stop stores. I purchased the proper 240v generator extension cord with the proper plug and outlets for house refrigerator and to keep our phones charged and box fan. UPS delivered the unit,Read the instruction book, i assembled the handle and wheels on it. Installed propane hose and propane bottle. The units battery was not charged enough for the electric starter. I cranked it with the pull starter rope let it run for about 30 minutes, i forget how long. Then the unit started with electric key start function because the generator got the battery up to full charge. When the power company turned our power off for their maintenance upgrades. I waited about thirty minutes and started the generator, it's about as loud as a lawn mower, to be expected, it's a outdoor piece of equipment. Ran the generator for almost 7 hours with refrigerator plugged in. This is my first portable gas powered generator. Ran great, i like it, and now i have a generator to use in case of power outages and run a small home welding machine occasionally. Purchased a extension cord for welder to, it's different than the one i used for refrigerator and small in house stuff. Read about plug and outlet ends for various uses that match the generator outlets and the plug ends for the equipment you want to power. ... show more

  • Worth the money for my needs.
Style: Electric Start (4750W)
I bought the unit in early December and assembled it with no problems. I filled with oil but did not start it but moved it to an inside storage. We had an Ice storm but did not loose power. We were lucky but I was prepared for failure. So finally after severe weather turned to a couple days in the 70's I rolled it out of the house and attached a propane bottle as I did not want to install Gas for no reason but starting. It fired right up on propane with no problem. One thing I found is that you have to run it on 120v by itself or use a 240v pigtail to use either leg. It will not run using the ground fault plug if switched to 240v. I also bought volt hertz meter at the same time I got the generator as this unit does not have a meter. The voltage was perfect, the hertz was perfect. the RPM was perfect. I loaded at half load with a electric heater and ran it about two hours just to semi break it in. I am very happy and it performed well. For the price and ease of use no one could ask for more. I also have bought in the past a Wen gas power washer and it has never failed. ... show more
