Description

Remember when you needed to smooth out those joists? Plane away chips, splinters and misshapen edges with the WEN 6 Amp 3-1/4 Inch Electric Hand Planer. Perfect for fixing stubborn doors and fitting wood. This power planer’s 6-Amp motor delivers over 34,000 cuts per minute to your workpiece, slicing away any irregularities until the surface of your boards are aligned and smooth. With a cutting width of 3-1/4 inches and a maximum cutting depth of 1/8 inch, you’ll have the perfect companion for fitting and squaring boards. The 16 positive stops increase in increments of 1/128 inch anywhere from 0 all the way up to 1/8 inches. The base plate shoe even includes a v-shaped groove for easily flattening sharp post corners. Aside from the power planer, this package also includes a dust bag, a rabbeting guide, a kickstand and a parallel fence bracket. The included rabbeting guide adjusts anywhere from 0 to 7/10 inches to allow for rabbets up to an inch deep in size. The parallel fence provides an accurate and straight cut by making sure your strokes are directly parallel to the edge of the wood (a must have for planing door edges, wood trim and boards). The kickstand protects both the blade and the workpiece in between uses by keeping the blade elevated and out of contact from the surface of your project. Finally, the dust bag collects all of your loose shavings to keep your work space clean and sawdust free. The bag attaches to both the left or right hand side of the planer to fit whatever your preference may be. And because this is a WEN Product, your 6 Amp 3-1/4 Inch Electric Hand Planer comes backed by a 2-year warranty, a friendly customer help line, and a nationwide network of skilled service technicians. Remember when you had a reliable planer that lasted for years? Remember WEN.

  • Skmewhat noisy and awkward to use.
Style: Corded Hand Planer
After getting used to work the tool, found that it's right handed tool, with safety lock on left side of handle, which makes this tool difficult to use...I am lefty, BTW. After playing with it for a while, I figured out how to make it work for me and it does pretty good. Be sure to use your ear plugs and have the dust chute deflector set to correct direction or else get "showered" with saw dust...life of being a lefty... The cut adjustment is also a handle and easy to use and solid wratchet action makes to ease of use without worrying about inadvertently adjusting cuts. ... show more

  • WEN Electric Planer saves you time and money
Style: Corded Hand Planer
I had several sticking doors in my home that needed fixed. I didn't want to spend a fortune for my home use and researched electric planers. I was familiar with the WEN Brand so I gave this one a try as my first electric planer. Similar quality planers were double the price. I used the WEN Planer on several hollow core doors and one heavy thick antique door and was very pleased with the performance. I had never used one before and just followed the directions included and set up the planer to remove a small amount at a time as little as 1/64" or you can adjust it to take off much more. TIP: Start slow and use the low settings 1/64, 1/32" and secure your work. The handle can be set to plane left or right handed as needed. TIP: The planer comes with a bag you can attach to the planer to catch the wood chips which is nice, but fills very quickly. However, I used my 1 gallon shop vac and attached the hose in place of the cloth bag. I would turn on the shop vac and then plane the door until I was finished with the vaccum sucking up the wood chips. I'm very happy with my purchase. It made quick work of my sticking doors and was easy to use and clean up. I saved half what I would have purchasing a local name brand unit. WEN is good quality for the homeowners needs. I would recommend this Wen Electric Planer to a friend. ... show more

Everyone says don't go cheap on certain things. Well I did on this and it's worked perfect so far. I wish it came with a bag because it makes a huge mess, very quickly. As you can see in the pic that was a 6" long cut on a piece of pvc trim. After that I just a vacuum hose on it.

  • Good
Style: Corded Hand Planer
I bought this planer because I was installing new doors in my wonky, odd-shaped house. It worked great. The only complaint is that even with the dial set in the right direction and the dust bag installed per the instructions, I still got a mouthful of sawdust when I first used it. I had to use painter's tape to cover the open end of the exhaust to prevent it from happening again. ... show more

  • Works well for the price
Style: Corded Hand Planer
Agree with most of other reviews. Works great for small projects and at this price. I did notice like another reviewer about blade not sitting perfectly straight. I was able to compensate for that. I rented a professional Makita from Home Depot which was really beat up. That unit was lighter and cut smoother than this one. But, for what I paid for this was the rental of the Makita for one day at HD. I needed to do more work on my project so I decided to buy this unit so I have for future uses. The shavings bag isn’t perfect but it does collect a lot. And the directional chute is a plus. There is no trigger lock, so you need to keep pressure on the trigger. All in all, you get what you pay for. A side note, the unit is heavy and for whatever reason, Amazon puts the box in another box with no filling, so this was delivered like a box of rocks. Both boxes were beat up, but luckily it did not affect the machine. ... show more

It gets the job done

  • Great at this price point, but...
Style: Corded Hand Planer
I needed a planer to level a small cheap butcher block countertop I'm making. How cheap? It's made of ripped down 2x4s. This planer honestly did pretty good after a little set up , after which it did a decent job of leveling the panel. The cuts were nice and smooth and even enough once I figured out what I was doing. However, there are several caveats you should be aware of, the first of which is that it required quite a bit of fiddling to level the blades with the rear shoe. Also, while the blades were sharp, they were not perfectly straight but slightly curved so that the edges gouged out more than the middle. If anything planer blades should be curved the other way so that they carve slightly more from the middle than the edges. I could have removed the blades entirely and spent some time leveling them on my diamond plates. I personally don't think that's unreasonable, especially for the amount of money you pay for this thing and I certainly would have done so if not for the final nail in the coffin: The front shoe was not parallel with the rear shoe in either direction which caused a lot of snipe no matter how careful I was. And unfortunately that's something I could not adjust and decided to return this unit. I could just exchange this for another one but I've now learned that I like electric hand planers enough that I want a higher quality one. So in summary, at this price point, this is a really good tool. However, if it were priced much higher it would probably not deserve more than one or two stars. Don't expect a more than a moderate level of precision and be prepared to spend some quality time with it getting it set up and adjusted properly. If all you need is some quick and dirty leveling or something like trimming down some door edges or lumber, this thing would be perfect. ... show more

What a nice little tool. Used it to take a bit of wood off a screen door. It worked flawlessly. Sure wish I had bought this tool years ago. This is not my first Wen product. I have bought a few tools previously, and have had a good experience with them. The tool is affordable for a DIY guy like me. Not professional grade, but perfect for me . Used this to level the bottom of a stair case stringer to a very uneven sidewalk. Worked like a champ! Wish I had bought to plane bottom of the doors I had installed earlier in the year. So easy to use and smooth.

  • Amazing reno project opportunity
Style: Corded Hand Planer
During a reno of a vintage 1900s property struggled about the trim. Back in the day the varnish used had the lead. The next coat was an oil-based paint in I'm guessing the 1960’s possibly. But, it's the thick lead hide paint that disgusts me. You include the decorative top trim is removed in most of the house. Plus, some of the wood is damaged. Trim is an exceptionally expensive change. One, protect from lead. And, how to improve the paint or replace it. Until now felt stuck for a few years. Bought this planer for me for Christmas. After a door debacle thought this would solve the straight surface issue easy peasy. Upon pulling off a piece of trim along the floor. Yea know, the seven inch high with a curve at the top. Typically including a separate decorative trim piece above. Looking at the back of the trim noticed a 1/16 of an inch plane one inch from the bottom and top perfectly through the middle along the entire board. Suddenly, this idea. If I plane those two areas then buff the entire board I’ll have the original wood. It's never been touched by varnish. If I cut the top curved inch off could add a new piece of trim to the top for decorative reasons. Like, in the movie Moster in law the living room has 1x2 inch painted black trim tacked on above the bottom wider trim tracing everything from the base board to around the door. Or, I could leave the dip to keep the board a full seven inches wide and still add a topper trim piece. The dip in the back could be helpful for cords that run along the wall sometimes for older homes. Instead of buying those plastic paintable holders. Anyway, with this planer, I can restore all the trim in the house. Making the projects go exponentially faster. Rather than use a heat gun and deal with all that. I’ll do a hand rub poly to bring out the wood. There are so many products today that weren't invented back then to help accentuate wood. It’s weird there is a gap in the back. Could have been for airflow perhaps. I didn't research the reason of why they took time to plane each board through the middle. Anyway, restoring boards from the late 1890’s to be used for one of the oldest houses in this neighborhood is like one of the coolest things ever, too me. I’m redoing the office for the practice first, so I should see the results by next week when I get to the trim. Super happy to have this planer and help to transform projects like the trim into works of art ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💯 ... show more

  • Great tool
Style: Corded Hand Planer
I originally ordered the smaller Wen planer but returned it to get this one. I’m very happy with this tool. I hook the bag up to the far side and use my shop vac’s straight tube in the near side dust port. It slides into it. I wrap the tube to the port with aluminum tape so that it’s in far enough to stay there. The tube can still be removed from the port after use and reused with the same aluminum tape. Just squeeze the tape against the tube. Take time to watch “The shipwright’s” YouTube on setting up a Ryobi planer. I notched the blades as he advises when I saw that the blade extending from the edges of the shoes cut a groove in the board I was working on. I used a diamond burr in my rotary tool to cut 45 degree notches at all four corners of each blade. I aligned the blades first by backing off on the hex head set screws till they were flush with the back of the blade housing then turned each 21/2 turns. Then I sighted down the back shoe and adjusted each blade so that it was level. I took his advice and threw away the wrench that came with the planer and used a 5/16 wrench on the blades. I forgot to say that the reason I put the dust bag on the opposite (closed) side is because you still get shavings out that side when in use. Even with that a small amount of shavings still come out that side. I haven’t removed the shoe as the shipwright does nor have I balanced the blades. I have some work to do to get up to speed on this tool. Im gouging the board at the beginning of the cut and am not keeping it square on the edges so I put the fence on the tool. Don’t be too aggressive. The vac tube can be removed from the dust port without having to remove the aluminum tape so if you don’t crimp it, it’s reusable. It also serves as a handle. Enjoy!
