I have a ancient craftsman router and it's bulky with a cord. The Ryobi is battery operated and easy to use. Since I have a lot of Ryobi tools it just adds to my collection. Used it a half a dozen times, sure works without any problems.

For a battery-operated planer, it is exceptional. I like the parking shoe to protect the blades. I like that I can attach it to my 1 1/4" vacuum hose. I had no problems with some fairly heavy cuts on pine. Light cuts gave me a very good finish. The tool is quite easy to control, allowing you to plane flat.     • Wood working essential
If you don't have the space to get a table planer this is the next best thing. This gets the job done, and it saves you a lot of time sanding from low to higher grades, after planing it, you can just hit it with a 120+ sandpaper and finish off the job.

    • Not for freehand use!
This is a good product. There is Nothing at all wrong with it. The depth gage is accurate, it's lightweight, the battery is strong enough for a few passes. I bought it to trim hanging doors. It is not a good tool to do that with. Stick with a rasp or hand plane. It's a lot safer.

    • Perfect planar for occasional use
This sits in my garage unused 99% of the time. But when I need to shave a bit off a door or get a board down to some obscure dimension, it's never let me down. Depth adjustment works great and it cuts plenty smooth for any job you'd use a cordless planar on.

    • Nice for light/small jobs
Well designed, easy to use, nice features. Make sure you have a big enough battery, you want those blades spinning at the right speed. I used a Ryobi P108 6Ah battery and it worked like a dream.
