Style: 5600W, Recoil Start
I live in Houston, TX where we get a ton of hurricanes and floods every year. During really bad storms, it is not uncommon to get blackouts and be without power for a couple of hrs., maybe even a few days. After the last one lasted close to a week, I said nope, never again, and finally decided to buy a generator. When I finally decided to buy a Wen brand generator, I actually wanted the electric start version but didn't have the funds. When I finally did save up enough, they were all sold out and only the recoil start were available. Hurricane season was upon us again and didn't want to risk it so decided to buy this version instead since it was in stock. The reason I wanted the electric start was because I've heard all the negatives about how hard it can be to manually start portable generators (all brands not just this one). Why not buy an electric start that is going to make my life easier right? At the time, both were very close to the same price so I initially felt I was getting cheated on features and a better product. I was completely wrong. Mines literately starts on the second pull, at most the third pull. I have never had an issue getting it started super easy. I have not had the chance to really test it out during and/or after a storm so cannot really comment on quality yet. I will update this part if it changes negatively. I have started it up every few months to keep it from rusting out and I've had no issues with it. I have a generator inlet box installed to my house and have already tested my setup and everything works as it should. Powers everything I need during a storm. Lights, fans, fridge, appliances, other, etc. Remember, this generator only outputs 30A at most (which is all I need) but if you're expecting to power everything including your central AC, your out of luck. This generator is not made to output and power all of that. I've used other generators before and this generator is really quiet compared to other equal output versions. However, some might think it is still too loud. For those people, you want to search for one that is designed to be quiet like an inverter generator (especially if you're going to keep it really close to where you're at or inside a building) but note that those are much more expensive and don't usually output as much power as a conventional generator without getting super expensive. Final note, I now don't regret this recoil start version because of its simple, clean design and there are less parts to fix if I need to repair something. No battery, starter, flywheel, harnesses, etc. to replace if something breaks or fails. Parts will be much cheaper and easier to source because of the less complexity of this version. ... show more

  • Great generator just run seafoam through the tank on the first run
Style: 5600W, Recoil Start
Generator is great, surged for first few runs, pulled apart carb and cleaned it. Runs great now. Sips gas and isn't too loud. Owners manual is a hoot, especially the ghost solution. 😆

  • 2 years is still running strong
Style: 5600W, Recoil Start
Been using this generator now for 2 years I live in the mountains of Tennessee so our power goes out quite regularly and I use this as a backup power for my refrigerators and freezers. This is a really nice portable little generator it's easy to move around. It will run about 8 hours on 4 gallons of gas it's quieter than my home light 5000 w generator. I ran it for 3 weeks straight during hurricane Helene, I have about 2,400 hours on this generator and it's still going strong.I would definitely recommend this little wen portable generator. ... show more

  • Waste of money.
Style: 5600W, Recoil Start
Ran fine for 4 hours then started surging for an hour and then die. Got it to start up for 5 mins then die and wouldn’t start. I tore the whole thing apart and found pins they over tightened everything and split the head gasket and carb gaskets. I only know this bc the oil was over filled with oil and gas. I fixed the gaskets and tightened to Briggs and Stratton specs. If this was one of my customers equipment I would have charged $350 for the rebuild. So after purchasing and that cost. I could have go a B&S champion generator cheaper with more wattage. I don’t recommend buying this. Bc if u have to use it in an emergency and it starts surging. This will be bc gas is going into the oil. Don’t buy unless ur good at rebuilding the engine. ... show more

  • Easy Set Up and it Works!
Style: 5600W, Recoil Start
I purchased this unit during the LA fires when SCE frequently shut off power across Southern California. This seems to have become the new norm: when the winds pick up, SCE cuts the power. (While addressing the root cause by improving their delivery system to prevent fires would be the ideal solution, this doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon.) Given this reality, I decided to purchase this generator. The setup was straightforward, with clear instructions, and it started on the first pull. Delivery was impressively fast—arriving the next day—and the value is excellent. To put it in perspective, a neighbor purchased a 13,000-watt generator (a little over twice the power output of this one) for $4,000. For that price, you could buy ten of these! While it is a bit noisy, I understand that’s a common characteristic of most generators. One recommendation: be sure to purchase the 30-amp generator cord to maximize its functionality. ... show more
