These do in fact lock down like a regular vice grip, contrary to some reviews. However they don’t lock past there clamping range, say 0-3”...........just like a regular vice grip. Just want to inform others as I dislike bad reviews written by those who use a tool incorrectly or past its design limits. Had to give it 4 starts because of the obscure m12x1.75 thread. Almost impossible to find t nuts for that thread and a 5/8 t slot table. The most common thread for this application is 1/2 x13 and t nuts are easily found. The t nuts for this I wasn’t even able to find on amazon. Had to order te-co brand as that is the only suitable t nut available. M12 t nuts are most often found in 9/16 t slots for some reason. ... show more

I purchased these because of the small size and because they came from the vendor of my drill press, which I am happy with. However, they are effectively useful. They are made of what feels like pot metal where I felt they would bend during normal use, the adjustments knob it very hard to turn, and they won't clamp all the way down on thin items. Further, at least on my WEN 4214 the ring nuts on the bottom are hard to use, the are hard to turn and they do not seat well at the bottom of the movable base on which you put items to drill. I know this item is cheap, but if you can afford a drill press you can afford a better clamp. I returned these and ordered the PTTD634 from Strong hand Tools: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JXFKVXY — yeah, its 2x the price and it's unfortunately a little larger, but it is everything this WEN clamp is not but should be. I bought this and just "tried" to use it. Will not lock down on materials. I also ordered the 9 inch i hope it works better then this 6 inch. Would not waste your money on the 6" now i havent worked the 9" but i did clamp different sizes down 9" well worth the money. It at least locks down on material. ... show more

    • Does not fit an older WEN 4214 drill press

I purchased this clamp to use on a 2014-era WEN 4214 (12") drill press. The clamp does not fit, in spite of WEN's promotional material that says "...the WEN 12-Inch Drill Press Clamp adds safety and precision to any drill press." Their promotional material does not add, "...except older WEN drill presses." I called the WEN technical help desk (B.T.W., it is nice that there is a WEN technical help desk), and the technician told me that WEN had changed its drill table design since my drill press was manufactured. While I was assured that the clamp fits on newer WEN drill presses, the clamp will not work on an older WEN drill press table without some modifications. The problem is that the slots on that older table are t-slots and are not drilled through. There is a hole in the inside-right side of the table that looks like it should be usable, but its diameter is too small to fit the bolt end of the clamp. It would appear that WEN's clamp designers were not thinking. My solution will be to drill out that hole in the table to enlarge it a bit so that the clamp's bolt will fit through it. In addition to the WEN clamp not fitting my older WEN drill press, the clamp's finish is rather poor. There are some rough spots that I'll be filing down and the clamp's screw threads do not work smoothly. The clamping head itself is rather small. To conclude: given the lack-of-fit and poor finish to the WEN 430DPC Drill Press Clamp, there must be better options available; I would not recommend this clamp, even if it did fit my WEN drill press. ... show more
