Finally a solution to keeping cabinet frame sides lined up while putting in pocket screws. I just wish it wasn't so expensive. I'm retired on a budget and this is pretty pricey for what it really is. If I could weld, I'd just make one out of an old Vise Grip. Well, the self-adjusting feature is cool, though, so I guess Kreg deserves to be compensated for the design work.

i don't generally write reviews but in this case the technical service response was so quick and the solution so easy and well articulated that i could not resist. though i have not used the tool in a project yet, I bought this clamp in anticipation of using it with KREG's pocket drilling system. it seemed like an essential and unique tool to round out the basic pocket drilling strategy. when it was delivered I tried it and could not get it to clamp any piece other one thickness, aka, it was not adjustable AT ALL! it specifically did not do what it was advertised to do. i read some reviews and found others had the same problem. i contacted KREG Technical Services by email (you can find the address on their website). the next morning a very helpful response came back describing how to "reset" the tool. that fixed the problem instantly. i think this description should be included in the basic user manual! but since it does not i will copy it here for anyone interested in buying this tool. i now think it is a brilliant innovation for vise grip type tools and i will likely buy more of them (because, of course, "you can never have too many clamps"). here is the complete response from KREG describing the reset procedure. "Thank you for contacting Kreg Tool. I am sorry to hear you have experienced a problem with your Clamp. We will have you do a reset to see if we can get it to work. So you will open the jaws and back out that adjustment screw to the point where it is really loose but not falling out. You should see around 3/8" of threads between the bottom of the head of the screw to where it screws into the mechanism. Then you will close the jaws then open them back up. After that, you can bring that adjustment screw back to the positive around halfway down and try to clamp it down. That adjustment is not an exact adjustment, you may have to tighten it more or loosen it more to get the correct pressure you want to apply. Please let me know what that does. I look forward to your response!" Needless to say, i did let them know that it worked and thanked them.

These clamps are amazing!!! I was a little skeptical after reading a few mixed reviews regarding the Automaxx feature. It was for this reason that I purchased 2 Premium Kreg face clamps WITHOUT Automaxx just to be sure I had two clamps that at least worked well. Now, I wish I would have spent the extra $20 and got my other two with Automaxx. The Automaxx feature removes the threaded tension adjuster that you commonly find protruding from one handle of the clamps. The mechanism in this clamp automatically adjusts to whatever thickness you're working with, and clamps down at a preset tension. The tension is set with a small adjustment dial, turn one way for more tension and the other way for less tension. And this dial is sensitive, in the way that a slight turn makes a noticeable difference in clamping pressure. So you can take a piece of material, say 3/4", and clamp down. Adjust the screw to reach your preferred clamping pressure, and you're done. Now, you'll clamp down with the same pressure every time whether your clamping down on 1/2" material or 1-1/2" material. No more setting or adjusting. Perfect! These right angle clamps are like an extra set of hands. I put a little glue between my two pieces of material and place a right angle clamp and it literally holds everything in place while I install my pocket screws. Sometimes there is a little slide while clamping, which I read in some reviews and was slightly concerned about. But this can happen with any clamp. There is a sweet spot to clamping where one piece or the other doesn't slide. You'll find this with the clamp your using and it just becomes second nature every time you clamp. Two of these held up numerous 24"x27.5" panels while I installed pocket screws. And they were SECURELY held in place, standing up, not unstable at all. I am in my first project with pocket hole construction and am often working by myself. Having two of these clamps on hand is seriously like having another person helping you and having an extra set of hands while you work. The only issue I've had with these clamps is when releasing from clamping, you need to open them up all the way. This kind of "resets" the mechanism for the next clamping. If it doesn't, the clamping pressure isn't exactly what it should be. But this isn't really a big deal for me. Most of the time when I release them from the material, they open all the way automatically. And if they don't, I do it by habit. Hope this helps.

Doing a kitchen upgrade and moving a cabinet to replace with the one I made. First time ever attempting such a thing and seriously, this is the extra pair of hands you need. They work great. The review where he said it destroyed item he was building has the adjustment just set wrong. If it's too tight, loosen it up, don't force it. That means it's too tight and it may damage wood. You just have to try a few times, but once it's right and all the wood is the same thickness, it's go time. Couldn't have assembled this as accurately without a pair of these. They may be pricey, but cheaper than at Menards. With every penny!
