I ordered the MIGVAN Auto Darkening Welding Helmet to use in conjunction with my MIGVAN 110V Combination MIG/Stick/Lift TIG welder that I also purchased here on Amazon. This welding helmet is well made from quality materials. While it’s not as heavy as my old welding “hood”, it’s just as durable and my neck is thankful for the lighter composition. The hood itself looks like something from a futuristic movie and I rather like its aesthetics. The main hood outer lens is Amber (some will call it gold) in color and comes in a wide range of protection densities. It’s dual powered, meaning it can draw power via solar exposure (UV spectrum) or via its replaceable lithium battery. The auto darkening feature is great. From the first burst of UV light at arc ignition (lens adaptation is extremely fast and performs initial adaptation within 1/30,000th of a second or 0.033 of a millisecond), the lens immediately (and automatically) adjusts to provide maximum eye protection while maintaining full color visibility within your welding field and of your welding pool. The technology is truly amazing. Self adaptation means you aren’t constantly forced with hood removal to inspect a given weld, saving time and ultimately money. Adaptation range, in accordance with the German Institute of Standards is continuously variable between DIN4 (most transparent / lightest) to DIN13 (least transparent / darkest) based on the type of welding being performed and the amperage of the welders arc. Keep in mind that this helmet is multi purpose, and can be used for full face protection in grinding tasks or even for use with traditional acetylene / oxygen cutting rigs. It’s easy to use. Simply remove the helmet from its carry bag (a really nice addition that comes with the helmet), dial in your settings (for first time users of adaptive eye protection technologies, I’d set my helmet to the fastest rate of adaptation and the most opaque of the transparency settings to avoid any eye stress or damage from arc flash at ignition), adjust the head band for a comfortable, yet firm fit; don the helmet, pull it down over your face, confirm that it’s blocking all pass through light from outside the helmet (remember the settings I suggested you use initially), adjust your transparency and task type for the optimum task vision, and you are set to weld. This helmet was built with safety in mind and it meets both ANSI and CE requirements. Take it from me, if you are looking for a high-quality, reasonably-priced, auto adapting, welding / grinding helmet, look no further. This MIGVAN helmet has you covered in more ways than one. I like it so much that I’ve recommended it to my professional fabricator (welding) friends. I wouldn’t hesitate to order it again.

I’ve had a cheap Harbor Freight welding helmet I’ve been using. It has a typical small viewing area with a green tint. I’ve been used to using it for years, so this new welding helmet was such a nicer experience. I could see more natural colors when the tint was not engaged. The viewing area was so much nicer to see what I was doing. These are the two major factors for which I ordered this helmet. I was NOT disappointed. I tested all adjustments for the delay, light sensitivity, and strength of tint. Each worked well during various welds. This comes with additional face shields that may need replacing occasionally due to damage from scratches or welding splatter. There are also extra clips provided, which hold the face shield to the helmet. That was thoughtful. The helmet also included a USB C rechargeable flashlight that sticks to it via double-sided tape. I opted not to install this because of it getting in the way in tight spaces. I was hoping it was a removable light, but it is not. I’ll come up with other ways to light things up when needed. The manufacturer could improve their helmet if they came up with a durable mount allowing the light to be optional, depending on what was needed. It lights up nice and bright. When I go to tilt the helmet up from my head in the up position, I must fully put it up or it won’t stay put. There is no in-between position that I could manage. It will just fall back down. This is a minor issue for me, but I wanted to note this. The helmet comes with a nice cloth bag to store it in. I will be using this to keep it clean, protected, and in good shape. This helmet is used at home for repairs and hobbies. I’m overall happy using the helmet and look forward to many years of use of having a better view while welding.

Fits comfortably and allows for good visibility on both sides nadforward. The light is very bright and allows for adjusting. It holds battery well and quickly recharged. Heavy material and solid construction. It feels safe when using and yet it isn't so heavy that the neck tires too quickly. Black finish is as described and the neck line is a rounded to better fit for comfort. Parts are easy to swap out with a quick disconnect clip. My dad is using to protect while working on some car repairs that have lots of grinding and sparks. This is perfect for the job and he loves the helmut.

Directly out of the box my initial impression was lukewarm at best. The hood seemed comparable to my budget hood with a bit more style. Please note that concerning welding I represent a rank amateur having been around it but never pulling lead. I had recent need to repair a hay rake after a part failure on the lifting arm. I started work with my old hood that was part of basic stick setup. I had my usual issues trying to get setup and being outdoors the sensitivity on the budget hood was not reacting well to switching from direct sun/indirect/arc and I was unable to get it adjusted to a workable spot. When testing the fix it failed (amateur). I then switched over to this hood after cleaning up my mess with a grinder, and it was an extremely noticeable difference. The color quality was a major improvement. The larger viewing area was very helpful. The auto darkening response was good in both directions. I was able to adjust it to a comfortable fit without much issue. I did note that the padding on the back of the head strap was poorly adhered as it did come loose. As the adhesive was still clean, I was able to stick it back and it appears to be holding so it may have been a slight assembly issue. the hood appears decently durable as compared to others in my experience. The lens is really the improvement I saw compared to what I had. It made making the weld much easier compared to my old hood. The rake is back in operation. The weld isn't pretty but that is due to my ability and not the hood.

I needed a second welding helmet so I had a backup and so that I could start teaching my daughter about welding. This quickly became my primary helmet because of how well it works and the features that it has. I love the light on top as I frequently run into issues where the lighting isn't great where I'm welding and I couldn't see well before I started. This has quickly solved that problem. The visibility in the helmet is good and is comparable to other welding helmets I've used. I like how it has the replaceable lenses that cover the auto-darkening lense. That really helps make the helmet last longer and provides more protection from welder splatter or grinding sparked. It has a good range of adjustability so you can make it fit various head shapes. Overall, this is a great helmet for a beginner or someone like me that does occasional welding for their hobbies.

I got this welding helmet because it came with an LED light. Helmet works like it should with a quick shade change when welding. My disappointment is with the LED light that is not integrated into the helmet but you need to stick it on.
