  • Perfect for international travel, but pricy compared to other options.
Color: Navy Blue
I bought this in advance of a potentially rainy trip to Italy after reading reviews here and elsewhere. I also bought the less expensive Repel umbrella. The Weatherman umbrella has a great build quality and nicer fit/finish than the Repel, plus it's about 1.5 oz lighter. There are 11 color choices for the Weatherman and one Folds of Honor design, and each of them has a cool reflective edge around the canopy. The Repel comes in black, gray, yellow, and red as well as three unique patterns and combinations but no reflective bits. The Weatherman umbrella is slightly longer than the Repel when folded (11.8" vs 11.5") and smaller when fully open (37.8" vs 42"). It is also a single-canopy umbrella compared to the Repel's dual canopy. Neither umbrella is waterproof, only water resistant. If you're going to be in a lot of rain for a long time, you'll eventually have water drops coming through the canopy no matter which one you use. I only used the umbrellas for a few days during the trip, and not much at all since then so I can't speak to how well they compare over time. That said, I do think the mechanism on the Weatherman is sturdier than the Repel and you can feel the difference when opening/closing them. Is the Weatherman worth more than 2x the price of the Repel? If you are going to use an umbrella all the time or travel with it a lot, the Weatherman's 1.5 less ounces and better build quality will make a difference. If you don't use an umbrella very much, the Repel is probably the better option. ... show more

  • An Heavy weight umbrella
The umbrella feels solid and very resistant although I have not yet been able to test it in strong winds. It is compact without being tiny, almost enough for two people if they are close. The only problem is that it feels much heavier than it should for its size, probably due to its resistance, although that remains to be seen. ... show more

  • Tough umbrella
This stands up to wind and driving rain. It’s pretty heavy for its smallish size but if you need a tough umbrella then this is it.

  • Sturdy umbrella
This is a well made umbrella that feels sturdy. You can feel how well it’s made in its heft. It’s lightweight and folds down easily. When extended it is the perfect size for one person. I carried this around all over Paris this holiday, and used it daily. It never failed to deploy and keep me dry. It is really strong in windy conditions. My daughter’s cheap no-name umbrella flipped inside out many times in the wind at Disneyland Paris. This umbrella held strong in those same conditions. It’s small and easily fits in the side pocket of my backpack. I will buy another for my wife and daughter for when then travel. ... show more

  • holds up well in the windy wet
Color: Neon Orange
I'm not (in general) a fan of collapsible umbrellas, but this one's alright... probably the best of the half-dozen collapsibles I've had in my life. I've had so many because I've either lost them, the opening mechanism has started to become unreliable and needs help (vigorous shaking?) to deploy, or the thin supports for the canopy get bent up and/or break. This one feels pretty solid (hefty), has a strong and dependable spring and pushbutton mechanism and it's big -=enough=-. My color choice (happily) was that bright hunter orange, too, so that'll hopefully cut down on the "losing" part of my collapsible umbrella experience, I guess? Anyhow took it to Wellington, New Zealand in the spring and the Scottish highlands in the fall - both places are fairly wet (Wellington is windy, too) and it took both total downpours and heavy drizzles with ease. Seemed to shake off fairly well, too, and that helps when you have to sleeve it between uses as you jump in and out of a drenching rain - there's only a very slight (minimal) dampness to the canopy fabric after a couple good shakes and no lingering dampness at all in any bag or briefcase you might have to stow it in between appointments. It was pretty spendy, but I really don't want to buy another one and this one should last awhile... provided I don't lose it, that is. ... show more
