  • Western Digital WD101FZBX 10TB Internal Hard Drive Review
Capacity: 10TB Style: 256 MB Cache Pattern: Hard Drive
The Western Digital WD101FZBX 10TB internal hard drive is a remarkable piece of hardware, especially for professionals working in fields requiring extensive data storage and high-speed access, such as neuroimaging. With its impressive 10TB capacity, this drive offers ample space for storing large datasets, which is essential for my work in neuroimaging. The substantial storage capacity ensures that I can keep extensive amounts of neuroimaging data without constantly needing to offload or manage space. In terms of speed, the WD101FZBX does not disappoint. Operating at 7200 RPM and utilizing a SATA 6 Gb/s interface, this drive provides quick read and write speeds, which significantly boosts productivity. This is particularly important in my line of work where high-speed data access can make a substantial difference in processing and analyzing large neuroimaging files. The installation process was straightforward, and the drive was easily installed in my Dell Precision 7820 workstation without any issues. Reliability is another key feature of this drive. My machine is often running 24/7, processing data continuously for up to a week at a time. The WD101FZBX has proven to be highly dependable under these conditions, maintaining performance without any signs of slowing down or failure. This consistent reliability is critical in ensuring that long-running tasks are completed without interruption. The Western Digital WD101FZBX is an excellent choice for anyone in need of a high-capacity, high-speed, and reliable hard drive for demanding professional applications. Its robust performance under continuous operation makes it an indispensable tool for my work in neuroimaging. ... show more

  • Great Drive And Has Been Flawless For Over Two Years
Capacity: 2TB Style: 64 MB Cache Pattern: Hard Drive
I have four of these drives, which I rotate in usage for doing 'system image' backups to. I do an image backup every month, as a just in case measure. If my main drive in my computer dies, I can plug this disk into the external disk housing and restore my system disk within hours (yes, I have a blank disk on hand, same brand/model, so that I can restore the image to). I have had no issues with any of the four disks that I have been using to do the image saves to. Although the disks are not in use everyday, they have handled the job over the years that I needed them to do. For this purpose, they have had a 100% success rate. BTW, 'yes', I create a new system recovery DVD, with each image backup, to have a fresh/current recovery DVD on hand, as the system does go through updates during a month, and you need that reflected in your recovery disk/image save. BTW I highly recommend that a 'system image' backup be done on any new system, immediately after set-up in house. This way you will always have the capability to restore your system to 'new' condition, if anything ever happens to it (system disk crash/infected system). ... show more

  • Works Like A Dream. A Somewhat Noisy Dream.
Capacity: 4TB Style: 256 MB Cache Pattern: Hard Drive
I needed a bigger HDD for the huge influx of 4K footage I'm working with. Got it in a cardboard box and a non-static/spill-proof metallic sleeve. Two plastic shock absorbers were located at the top and bottom of the drive. Date of manufacture was dated 20 FEB 2022. Looks like they're pushing in the new stuff now. Installation was easy, just crack open the PC case and slip it into the rack. I knew about the noisy reputation that WD Black Drive's had, so I ordered a couple of noise-isolating screws and rubber washer to help mitigate the impending cacophony. After slamming everything together, I shoved it all into the PC. Storage size and transfer rate is top-notch, I can both watch and edit 4K movies with no trouble at all. The only problem (which is honestly a non-issue for me, but maybe not for you) is the noise it makes. Every so often, maybe every 5-10 seconds the disk head moves and you can hear a slight "thunk". You get used to it after a while, and this IS a performance drive, so noise like that is to be expected. Might be a bit jarring to people who weren't around when your computer sounding like an old muscle car starting up was standard. When going through heavy loads, the HDD spins to a high speed, but thanks to those noise-isolating screws and washers, I barely hear it. And since I'm only using this drive for editing, when I'm not editing Windows automatically turns off the drive so the "thunking" isn't around unless the drive is on and in use. No "scratching" or similar noises have been heard from the drive yet, and I've been using it heavily since Day-1. Only Whirling of the disks and the every present "thunk". This will give you good storage and speed with the only trade-off being noise. Keep that in mind as you eye that "Add To Cart" button. ... show more

  • For an HDD its fast, but noisy
Capacity: 10TB Style: 256 MB Cache Pattern: Hard Drive
The product is great for storing my steam library of games that do not require a SSD. I am getting the read/write speeds as advertised. The only thing i didn't like is the fact that unlike my old hard drive the mounting screws in the middle of covered up. This means i had to mount it using only three of the 4 screws which is... fine since i won't be moving my computer much. Other then that the only complaint i have about it is its noisy. The first day i had it i downloaded 2.5 Terabytes of data onto it. It makes a a rhythmic thumping sound in it and when i am reading data i can definitely hear the heads seeking data on the platters. This actually got me to immedily perform a smart test to ensure it wasn't DOA. It passed its smart test its just a noisy boy. I am guessing western digital said the hell with being quiet we gotta make this as fast as we can. ... show more
