    • Finally found a good drive
Some people might find it stupid to buy a drive like this just for storage but after trying a couple of other brands and dealing with crap like SMR and loud and flat out defective drives from other brands it's worth it in my opinion.     • Great value in a 6TB hard drive
This drive replaces the older WD model: WD6002FZWX. I attempted to buy the older model as a brand new item on eBay, since that is the model I was replacing, and I wanted to replace it with the same make/model. However, the seller sent to me a used item instead. I had to do a return, and then wait around for a refund. Then I went to Amazon to buy the newer model WD6004FZWX - and I'm happy with this purchase. The drive from Amazon has zero hours of use, and only 1 turn-on - as checked by my hard disk diagnostic software - so the drive is definitely new. The one from Amazon is quiet, fast, and reliable - and comes with a five year factory warranty, which I verified by going to the Western Digital website, and checking the serial number of my drive with their warranty lookup service. This is a good hard drive for the money - and I should have gone to Amazon first - instead of wasting my time elsewhere, trying to find an older/discontinued drive model as a new item. ... show more

    • Don't buy this drive as an upgrade
It installed and cloned just fine. But compared to the 2tb seagate drive it replaced, this drive much louder. It sounds like a blender anytime its reading or writing. It frequently locks up my computer, wont respond to mouse or keyboard input for no apparent reason. Even though i'm running an SSD for the OS. I feel like its also just moving slower. Opening folders, loading thumbnails. Maybe thats what you pay for going from 2tb to 6tb? But according to the spec sheets this drive should be better than the one i had in every way, but it isn't.     • Good quality Western Digital drive working fine after a year or two, maybe three.
I like the high capacity of this drive and the WD Black quality level. I use it to store my massive archive of photo files. All HDs fail eventually, so of course I have a backup. I lost all of my video collection to a WD HD mechanical failure a few years ago, and had no backup due to the massive amount of data. ... show more

I have had a great result from this drive…dependability and quick responsiveness. I will say that the sister drive is solid state and much quieter. I have read that the solid state life cycle can be a bit shorter but I have not witnessed it yet.

    • Works as expected, but with some noise. Does not look as expected.
This hard drive is generally a good, fast hard drive, just with a few caveats. The hard drive looks like a standard silver hard drive with little marking, contrary to the pictures showing clean black printing. This doesn't matter though. What does matter is that this hard drive makes a lot of noise when working hard, but it's faster than my other hard drives, so it's not too bothersome to me. ... show more

    • Fast real world sustained 230MB/s and Quiet!

I transferred about 1TB of large files to this drive so far and am seeing sustained write speeds of 230MB/s, and bursts of 750MB/s for the first few seconds. I am sitting right next to it and I don't hear any noise at all. If there is any, it's quieter than my very quiet case fans so I don't notice it. I ran the CrystalDiskMark tests and didn't hear any noise during that either, even thought that reads and writes many small files. See my test results image. Overall, I am very happy since it was about 4x cheaper than a similar sized SSD would have cost, and is about 2x faster than any other hard drive I have owned in the past. It really is super quiet also, so I don't know what other reviews are talking about. Maybe this 6TB version is just that much quieter than the 2TB or 4TB versions people are saying are loud? Or maybe WD just improved them (bought mine Feb 2023). ... show more
