  • It works !!!
It works well. Gets a 5 gallon bucket up to 115 degrees in about 8 minutes. Starting temp was around 55 degrees. Now keep in mind you have an electrical cord going into a bucket of water. I always unplug it before I remove it from the water. Ive been shocked by a faulty outlet before and it does not feel good so never touch the water with this in it. Use the supplied temp gauge. 5 gallons is just enough for me to get a decent shower. If you want longer showers that big store everyone knows has a 17 gallon tub pretty cheap or you could use a storage tub. The water pressure is not very strong but it works. I needed this while working on replacing a hot water heater and I needed to upgrade some stuff so it wasnt just an easy swap and took a few days. This would be nice to have around during an extended power outage if you have an inverter that will power it. NEVER plug it in and let it get hot before putting it in cool water. That could destroy the heating element. ... show more

  • What's the amperage?
I took it to the Caribbean where they had 240V, so I used an adapter/transformer to 110V, but it blew a fuse. So I just boiled water with an electric kettle. Scared to try it again. Lol. I think the wall socket was shorted, because my radio blew also.

  • Must have for cold weather life, double so for an RV
Pros: -Compact, easy to store -FAST -Easy to use Cons: -Short cord, but I understand why -High power draw (subjective) -Retains water after use, small amount Notes: -STEADY 14 amp draw, low for a regular house, but high for an RV, car inverter, or generator. Needs a minimum 20 amp rated outlet to work safely. -Short cord limits where and with what it can be used, to a degree. -Heats up QUICK, like within 5 minutes it was good enough for dishes and in 14 minutes it was warm enough for bathing. This thing is going to be a lifesaver. I was skeptical at first, I'd never seen one before and wasn't sure how well it would work and especially for $30, but I'm REALLY glad I got it. I live in an RV, in rural Alaska, and as such my water lines are pretty well exposed. Its not a 4 season vehicle either. From my water source I run 35ft of hose wrapped inch for inch in heat tape, foil tape, foam insulators, and more foil tape. It keeps the water flowing for the most part, but inside the walls I have no control over. Every year there is a time where my water freezes and I'm forced to use cups and buckets to melt snow or ice for dishes and flushing, and bottled water for drinking and cooking. Its a chore, but its the life I chose and I've learned to live it. Full time RVers know the trade-off. All that said, I won't need to worry much about frozen lines anymore with this wonderful gizmo on hand. As a trial, I filled a 2 gallon bucket with water and went to the power pedestal to plug in. Per the instructions, the device was fully submerged in the water before plugging in. I stuck a Kill-a-watt between so I could see what kind of power it draws, to know if I'll be able to use it inside or not. Yes, and no, to that one. My only 20amp plug is for my microwave which is mounted on my ceiling, a common thing in an RV, but with some effort it could be used. The Kill-a-watt read an EXTREMELY STEADY 14 amps from the moment it was plugged in. It got that little bucket steaming in about 10 minutes, which was good enough for me to know it works and works well. Unplugged it and waited a minute, it was cool enough to handle. It does retain a small amount of water, so give it a shake and let it air dry before storage. Overall its a good buy. It can be tricky in an RV, especially a 30amp rig, but with some minor sacrifices and a touch of cleverness you could make it work. If you live in a cold place I would definitely recommend having one of these around, RV living or not. For the price its pretty well worth it to ensure you have access to hot water no matter what, and it saves you from having to boil on the stove one pot at a time if/when pipes freeze up. ... show more

  • Convenient Way To Heat Water While Camping
I picked this up because horror stories have made me afraid to use the on-board water system in my RV. Heating up a 5-gallon bucket of water with this seems a lot more convenient than the chemistry experiment and health risks associated with my water tanks. For testing, the ambient temperature outside was 52°F, and the water started at about 40°F. This water heater conveniently includes a thermometer for testing the water, as you probably don't want to stick your hand in it while you have a plugged-in device fully submerged in it. I don't know exactly how accurate it is, but their included thermometer is what I used for the test. Under these conditions the heater was able to raise 5 gallons of water from 40°F to 67°F in 10 minutes. This was enough to show me it's very effective, and the included thermometer makes it surprisingly safe to use. This is all around a great tool to have around, whether you're camping or in case of emergency. I can definitely attest it's a great accessory to keep in an RV! ... show more

  • Hot Water Whenever You Need It
This immersion hot water heater heats water quickly and easily. I did a little test and heated 2 gallons (8 liters) of water from a temperature of 51.6 degrees to a comfortable bathing temperature of 123.4 degrees in ten minutes. I did use a 20 amp bathroom socket to plug the heater in to. It may not raise the temperature as quickly with a 15 amp or less socket. The power cord is 49 inches long with a U.S. specification 3 prong plug. The heater comes with a very handy digital temperature gauge, so you can measure the temperature if you are doing something that requires precise temperature water. Also included is a thoughtful spiral metal scrubbing pad to clean the exterior if hard water causes calcium deposits. The exterior of the unit is made with heavy chrome plated metal with a pleasing design of heart shaped cut outs to allow the water to circulate past the heating element, which is contained within. There are many uses, but I bought mine to use to heat water for wash cloth bathing during camping. This heater is well constructed and sturdy and it will last for a very long time. ... show more
