Washburn's comfort Series combine looks and ergonomics to deliver the ultimate player-friendly guitars. With their armrests, these guitars hug the body rather than digging into it and provide a comfortable playing experience Whether you're sitting or standing. The wcg55ce-o is a Grand Auditorium style acoustic/electric guitar with a Venetian cutaway for superior upper fret access. A highlight of the comfort Series is the Deluxe recurve-style ergonomic Armrest bevel at the lower bout which becomes part of the mahogany top binding. The guitar features a koi top and koi back and sides, Mahogany/Maple bound body and headstock. The satin finished mahogany neck has an Ovangkol fingerboard devoid of inlays and in tandem with the mahogany bound Ovangkol bridge adds an aura of understated elegance. A maple/Mahogany/Maple strip splits the book matched koi back as well. The headstock features a mother-of-pearl Washburn logo and 18: 1 ratio tuners. The Washburn parquet style rosette is made of alternating maple and mahogany. The wcg55ce-o is a fantastic sounding acoustic guitar in its own right but the addition of premium Fishman electronics makes for an outstanding stage performance guitar. The Fishman; 501T Press+ is an integrated tuner/preamp system for versatile amplified tonal shaping. • Smells Like a Winner
Style: Ovankol
BASICS: Loudness is medium, with a warmth and mellowness to its tone. This is the nicest-smelling of the ten guitars that I received from Amazon this week. No kidding; there is a very pleasant, mildly sweet wood odor that you'll experience while you're playing. All four of the wound strings buzzed when fretted on frets one through four. This was cured using the Allen wrench that was rubber-banded to the wrapped head stock. Perhaps the manufacturer realized that a neck adjustment would be likely needed on arrival. PLAYABILITY: Excellent. Fret board radius is much flatter than other acoustics I've played. This helps with wide, reach-intensive bar chords like those used in "Clap" by Steve Howe. I've struggled with that song on a 1988 Ovation Adamas, whose fret board radius is ten inches (very curved) and on a Wechter Pathmaker (somewhat less curved than the 1988 Ovation Adamas). This fret board being about as flat as the Martin 0018 that Howe uses makes a huge difference. ERGONOMICS: The arm chamfer on the lower bout is a great comfort. The satin black finish on the tuning keys is great because your sweaty fingers won't slip off as easily as with shiny, metallic tuning keys. OVERALL: This is the first of two Washburn Comfort Series guitars I've purchased, and both have the best fretboard quality in the fifteenth-through-twentieth fret region, where most acoustics are neglected. This is its most positive feature, more so even than the arm chamfer. You'll be able to play some electric guitar solos on this one. ... show more

  • Beware!!! Don’t buy this guitar!!!
Style: Ovankol
But on neck not level. Ran downhill toward first string. Frets not level on guitar. Ran downhill towards first string. When playing first string falls off neck. Neck bowed. Cosmetics beautiful but bad buzzing as a beginning player could not understand why my new guitar sounded so bad! Professional player in Nashville checked it out and said it wasn’t me it was the guitar! After he showed me the defects and played it and I played his it became obvious. So bummed!!! I feel as if I have been taken and I have!!! ... show more

  • Great service fast undamaged.
Style: Ovankol
I really love this guitar. I am a novice musician so take what I say with a grain of salt. I have been playing for around 3 years and wanted to step up to an intermediate level guitar (I call it that just because of the price)This is my second guitar. What caught my eye was the beauty of this instrument. Its well made and very comfortable to play. It has great sound and comfortable action. I researched alot of guitars, glad I purchased. There is one thing that bothers me though, after reading Washburn history it leads you to believe that this instrument is American made. Nope made in China. ... show more

  • Stunningly Beautiful - Laminate Top though
Style: Rosewood
FIRST - Please NOTE the Description is incorrect. There is no such model as a Washburn WCG55SCE. That would indicate the guitar is a SOLID top. It is not. I rate the product I received 4 stars for the following reasons: This guitar looks better than it sounds. If it were a solid Koa top I would imagine it would be far more expensive. The comfort features are 5 star. The walnut "armrest" is as functional as it is beautiful. Washburn quality is above average/expected in this model. The craftsmanship/styling of the woodwork is exquisite. I don't use that word, but it is applicable here. I don't know where else you'd get these cosmetic features for this price point. 6 stars. The sound is average for this size/type of guitar in this price range. I've played guitars 5 times as expensive that didn't sound as good. I've played guitars half this price that sounded better. Bottom line, I'm keeping this guitar even though the description was misleading/incorrect. Sound = 4 stars. Very playable. Low action. Thin neck. Fingers move well over the fretboard. Out of the box, no adjustment needed for acceptable sound, i.e. no buzz or setup issues. Light weight. Fishman 501T electrics. The pleasure is in the details on this guitar. The woodwork, the tuners, the lack of fret inlays for aesthetics. A picture does not do it justice. ... show more

  • All-around Beautiful Guitar
Style: Rosewood
I love this guitar. Beautifully crafted and a joy to play. The only frustration was that the first guitar shipped to me arrived damaged, so I had to return it. However, the return/refund process went smoothly and the new pristine guitar arrived two days ago. I highly recommend this instrument!

  • Great looking and great sounding!
Style: Rosewood
What a beautiful guitar and perfect sound. I have nine guitars and this is quickly becoming my favorite. I had the Ovation Celebrity (koa). I sounded good but not enough bottom end. Looked OK. I sold it to buy the Washburn. I also have the Epiphone DR-500MCE. Great sounding guitar, but not the right sound for me. The Washburn is in between the two. I am very happy. Great packing and delivery time. I just love this guitar. ... show more

  • NOT solid Koa- despite what some say.
Style: Ovankol
Beware when purchasing: despite what anyone may tell you this guitar is NOT solid Koa. I highly recommend buying from a brand that has higher resale value (Epiphone, Fender, Ibanez, Guild, Martin, Taylor etc.) if you are going to spend $900. Companies like Washburn describe time woods that are laminated as Koa rather than layered Koa as higher end brands in a similar price range would describe their laminate guitars. This is to get you to think that you are getting something you are not. It is important that the specs read solid Koa, solid spruce, solid mahogany, etc if you truly want solid wood. There are a lot more offerings with solid tops for this price and even lower. That said- it is a nice sounding guitar, but the sound will not become richer over time as it is definitely a laminate and NOT solid Koa. If you really like this guitar- go for it, you it plays well and sounds good especially when plugged in. There is just a lot of baggage that comes along with it that is not fun to deal with if you ever try to sell. ... show more
