This is the biggest piece of junk I've ever purchased on Amazon. The threads for the handles do not match. The female side is too large for the threads and it just spins freely over the threads and will not tighten down. I even tried to use plumbers tape to try and tighten the fitting. So the extended handle won't screw on. So I tried to use it without the extended handle. The first piece of wood I tried to split, the handle bent. I had high hopes for this thing. It would've been nice to split some kindling on my deck without going out into the yard and using the axe. But no, this whole thing is worthless! If I could give it zero stars, I would.

So this thing may work if you have a small stove or if you have wood that is 12” long. We have a fireplace and the wood we have delivered is 16-18” long. It doesn’t work. You cannot open the splitter far enough and get enough leverage to split the wood. It basically worthless and will be returned.

Very difficult to use on harder woods like hickory and larger pieces. They product was also over coated cause the threads for the extended handle to be unusualble. Threads where cacked with thick coating that could be removed with a wire brush. Wouldn't not purchase agian. Just get a saw😆

First thing you know about this item is that it is heavy duty, and works. Thing to know about this item is that it wants to be mounted on a space that is itself heavy duty. Part of the reason this works is the lever magnifies the force, and the pressure and torque on the mounting are not trivial. So for example it probably would not want to be mounted in the middle of an eight foot panel of wood fencing from your basic big box hardware store. You could probably get away with mounting it on a four by four to which the panel is attached. That having been said this is not for splitting logs, but for chipping kindling. A larger piece can be used, but the "bite" To be taken by the splitter should be kindling sized. Wearing a cut glove on the feeder hand would not be out of the question, and it should be secured against small children. But for splitting off some kindling sticks this is just as easy or easier than using a hatchet, and it never gets mislaid or buried under wood.

I was SO excited for this kindling splitter, hence the custom paint job on the post so it would look cool by the woodpile... and the disappointment is crushing to my soul, which is about the only thing thing piece of junk can crush, or split, or chip. Upright or horizontal, long handle or short, no matter the chunk of wood - big, small, species - all the different angles I try - IT.DOESN'T. MATTER. This is a piece of junk.
