#1 You are removing the wallplate. This ships with metal plate inserts to fit either outlet or decora (ships with 2 plates, 1 each). See photo. #2 As noted it can be installed upside-down. Fits Echo Dot no issues. Seems sturdy. Probably less weight support (see photo). UPGRADE suggestion: Include a blank plate, in case you have a blank wall plate you wish to cover! Loved the simplicity of the design, simple to assemble and install. One fault that I found was that the shelf wouldn’t stay flush with the wall. Once something was placed on top, the weight made it flex and a gap appeared. As the photo shows, I remedied this by drilling a center hole and securing it firmly to the wall with a screw and plug.
