  • Great low price aerator
Easy to assemble, comes with 3/4 of the spikes already attached. You should get a deep-well 10mm socket and use a small impact drill, you'll have all the spikes on in 10 minutes or less. The rest of the assembly is a piece of cake. Works well, provided exactly the aeration i expected from a spike aerator. I filled with round stones and works just as I expected. I have fine fescue grass and probably works best in finer grass yards. The size of this aerator is perfect for my yard, which is roughly 5000 square feet. ... show more

  • Won’t assemble
I really wanted this to work. I spent 2 hours trying to put the thing together. Finally gave up… seams the parts were defective and did not fit like shown.

  • Great tool for smaller yards, but can be tricky to finish spike installation
There are two types of aeration: plug aeration, and spike aeration. The plug aerators take out small plugs of earth and drop them on top, which then dissolve with rain etc. This is good if you have clay-like soil because it increases the gaps in the soil which helps with drainage. Spike aeration, that this tool does, will push into the soil, making holes, but around those holes will be firmer soil as a result - so this is not great for clay soil as much, but still good for getting water and nutrients deeper into the soil as a result. This rolling spike aerator needs weight inside it - either sand or pebbles, otherwise it won't go deep enough and will tend to just roll along on top. The instructions make this clear, and it's easy to unscrew 3 screws on either end of the barrel to then add weight of some kind and screw it back on. The only issue I had, was with the initial construction. It comes with several of the spikes still in the box, which make it easier to distribute, but it means you have to put those spikes in for yourself. You have to take the ends of the barrel and push each one (I think it was 10 of them), up through the existing hole and then thread a locking nut over it and tighten it up. I found this most frustrating with the two little wrenches they provide, as I had to stick my whole hand into the barrel and hold the bottom of the spike in place, while tightening the nut on the outside, and the wrench kept slipping off. So, a quick tip here is to use a pair of locking pliers or a small adjustable wrench to latch onto the outside nut and just turn the wrench itself. This was by far the easiest way I found to get them all on. ... show more

  • Excellent tool
There are a lot of ways to aerate your lawn, and none of them really worked well for me. I paid a company too much money to do a core aeration, which was excellent for the grass, but left garbage all over my lawn. I own a pair of aerator cleets that is OK at best, but doesn't get adequate coverage, and takes a long time to do. I also own a two-pronged stepping tool that gets clogged, and requires a lot of effort. This was easy - once assembled and weighed down with river pebbles, this device glided over my lawn, and poked regular, deep holes in the turf. It doesn't core, which is probably the most effective technique overall, but for the easy and quickness of application, this is tough to beat. I'll run it again since it took me less than 20 minutes, and then I'll spread compost on my lawn in the fall, and I'm looking forward to a stronger, healthier lawn in the future. ... show more

  • Sturdy Aerator
The aerator is really tough and cool. Once fully assembled, I even tried it on dry soil, and it could create holes and aeration even in that type of soil. My wife is happy with it because she doesn't like other types of aerators where you need to apply a lot of force. The most complex and longest part is the assembly. Not that it's complex, but it can be time-consuming. I used my wrench set with long wrenches and spent maybe 10 minutes max to fully assemble it. A 10mm wrench works the best. I've put white river stones in it, and it becomes quite heavy. It is pretty big, so you might need to use a smaller aerator for smaller areas. Recommended! ... show more

  • Heavy duty aerator with a lightweight handle.
The media could not be loaded. Check out my video on this rolling lawn aerator tool. The aerator is indeed, heavy-duty, and it operates smoothly. The handle is lightweight, but it’s adjustable and sturdy. The instructions are clear and concise, but the included tools are adequate to assemble. Nevertheless, it was a difficult and time-consuming process. I filled the aerator housing with sand and small rocks that were sufficient enough for soil penetration during use. Overall, it works well. ... show more
