Over the past year I have purchased 5 of these spotlights. They are made of formed brass not cast brass, which accounts for their lower price point. The lens is made of thick glass and the lamp body has an "O" ring seal to the lens housing. The mounting stake is made of heavy-duty plastic which makes it easy to pound it into the ground. Installing the bulb (sold separately) was very easy. I coated the "O"-ring with petroleum jelly to make it easier to slide the lens housing onto the lamp body. It also prevents the lens housing from sticking to the lamp body after months of exposure to the elements. A small brass thumb screw holds the lens housing into place. Orienting the spotlight's is as easy as loosening the brass thumb screw and moving the lamp into the desired position. For those who want to spend the small extra cost to go brass, I would definitely recommend the VOLT Fat Boy spotlights. ... show more

I would give 5 stars but everything I ordered was packed in a single box that was extremely heavy and the box burst one corner. Everything was there except for one stake. Please send a replacement.

My husband installed the volt lights around the front of our home. He did not have any problems running the wire (which he put in conduit) or hooking the wires into the transformer. The lights look beautiful on the house. The problem is, when he tried to take the lense cover off the light base to insert the light bulb, it would not come apart. After several attempts, he called the volt company only to find out that, yes they are having a problem with those lights. When they were manufactured, the rubber ring that seals the lense cover to the base is the wrong ring . It is too big. Volt said there would be no problem getting them replaced, but my husband would have to take everything apart and ship everything back. The wires were placed in conduit and buried. I didn't see this as an option but they were not willing to just send new lights. My husband finally sprayed the outside of the lights with WD40 to lubricate the two parts. Then he had to use a wrench to pull the two pieces a part. It worked! Very time consuming, but the efforts and the frustration were worth the beautiful outcome. Before installing the wire and such, I would suggest you check to see if you can get the lense cover off the base or if you received a faulty set of lights. I am also not sure if you can buy replacement light bulbs at a big box store or electrical supply. We had an electrician tell us that they are special bulbs and probably need to be purchased on line from VOLT. ... show more

I had a slight issue at first getting the lens cover back on after installing the light bulb -- but with a little patience (and silicone) I figured it out (I had 19 in total). The fixture seems very solid and attractive, and is easy to install as a DIY project. I definitely would order the fixture WITHOUT the bulbs since they charge $20 extra for the bulbs -- you can order a box of 10 bulbs on Amazon for $20. ... show more
