I got an eight-pack of these for a small cloning tent (24" x 16"). I opted to fasten the lights to the ceiling with the included spring clips. The lights are installed on three-inch centers. I measure 25,000 lux at 5 inches, and 15,000 lux at 12 inches- this is a very good light level for the small plants I work with in here. The lights put out a minor amount of warmth, which is well handled by a small ventilation fan. The electrical connections are tough and fit firmly; no shock hazard, no loose cords. Pros: Price is great. The quality of the light emitted, specifically the color from the lights, is much better than a certain, popular competitor’s similar lights - Truer “full spectrum.” Blues are less washed out. Easy to install, with lots of installation options. Connection cords are adequately long. Plug & play. Cons: The connector/power cords have a much longer section of plug/rigid cord than others I have, so the lights have to be further away from obstacles like under-shelf support brackets. That effectively makes the lights more like 14.5-15” long, not simply 11.5”. The plugs/sockets are two-pin instead of 3-pin, so they can’t be connected to other, existing T5/T8 lighting setups, and cords can’t be swapped out for generic ones if one gets lost or damaged. These seem a bit less sturdy than the aforementioned competitor’s lights. Cheaper materials were used on the external components. Overall, these seem decent. Worth the cost. A great option if you want colors to look a bit more natural, but don’t want to go with a cooler, 6500K light. For the price, you could do a lot worse. !!!Just make sure to account for the nearly 4-inches that the cords add to the length of the lights when you measure the space you want them in. The extra ~2” on either end do NOT flex. You MIGHT be able to squeeze an extra 1/2 inch out of each side (without damaging the lights or cords), but that’s it. Oh! Several of these lights had little caps inside the sockets on the ends. They pop out pretty easily with a fingernail or very thin implement that can get into the little gap between the cap and the body of the light. ... show more

The mounting brackets irritated me enough that I almost sent them back based on those and the materials alone. Some are better than others but a slight nudge will send these crashing to the floor/planter/fish tank, what ever. There isn't even a channel for the zip tie, so it just slips to the side. Are you serious with this garbage? I ended up gluing hook and loop to the brackets. Funny enough the velcro is sooo much better than the brackets, I will probably pitch them and just glue the velcro to the lights. I am a little worried that this till not give them enough air space to shed heat from the cheap plastic shell. My mounting situation does not allow for screwing the brackets in to something. I will allow that doing so may cause the bracket shape to change and hold the light more firmly. Speaking of that, the next complaint is that they are completely made of plastic and they get very warm. For the cost and simplicity of the light bars, the construction should be better. Full spectrum, like the sun... more like the light from a fluorescent. If you are using them side by side rather than in a line, be aware that because of the way they have to be cabled that the power buttons are going to be on alternating sides. They do not work at all with a UPS that has PWM simulated sine waves. One of the lights will rapidly flash and the other will not turn on at all but the control button LEDs flicker. I have heard of this behavior with cheap leds but this is the first time I have encountered it. Positives Being that they are so cheaply constructed, they are extremely light. They also do give off the expected amount of light. Controls are easy yo use and caused no issues. The plastic is easy to glue to. You do get a decent amount of light for the dollar spent If you don't mind the power button issue, the cabling is adequate. I really like some Vivosun products but this one is just OK at best. In the future, I might just stick to their pond products which I have always found to be a great value. ... show more

I love these lights! I have a whole rack set up and have been growing all kinds of plants. I’ve always been a gardener, but I had never really experimented with grow lights before—these have made it easy and my plants have been doing great under them. They’re simple to set up, connectable, and the timer works reliably. I bought the 4-light set first, and it worked so well that I went ahead and bought this 8-pack. It came with extra cords and an additional timer that I didn’t need right away, but I’m glad to have it on hand. I was also able to repurpose a couple of the lights for my separate terrarium with my coffee plants, which was a nice bonus. Overall, a great buy. I’ll likely buy more in the future (even though I probably shouldn’t!). ... show more
