First unless you have a top-of-the- line hammer drill go rent one your back well thank you. Make a practice hole in a brick so you know how big your hole needs to be I don't want to say the measurements because I don't know if they're all the same get the best bits you can buy and make sure you have two of whichever size you use mine started to go dull around whole five lastly start with a small bit and then slowly widen up the hole with bigger bits you're going to have to wiggle it in place when you put the legs on doing this will help you Center it up if you can get you some needle nose vise grips that'll help you push the screw head up as you wiggle the legs into place you will have to take it apart to do that you'll need to put it together to make sure you have it in a good spot and everything fits then take it apart put it on the put the legs on the hole wiggle them through with your needle nose vise grips get the screws on them and then put it back together that's what worked for me good luck also you might want to look for textured tape this thing is as smooth as a baby's bottom okay in the summer not great for those who have winter ... show more

easy to install. But for 4-5 steps, it is actually good just for 4 steps. Hope they have a little longer version for 5-6 steps.

This hand rail went up in a jiff on a wooden stair that leads from the top of the driveway to the ground. These stairs tend to get slippery in the winter. Also I'm almost always carrying something up or down them and I like having the railing to keep me steady and to prevent me from slipping. It's sturdy enough for me, and again, it went up so easily! I'll start by confirming that item arrived as described, complete, and installed reasonably well, with a sturdy and reliable finished product. IF I hadn't simultaneously installed another similar rail, that currently is priced virtually the same at $70, I would easily recommend THIS set. BUT it has drawbacks when comparing 'side by side'...yet it is STILL a great handrail, with all the proper hardware, a decent process to install, and a solid final finished product. SO: knowing now that this holds my rather confident 4 star recommendation, allow me to compare it to my else-product that earned my full 5 stars. This rail's final height is nearly 3" lower than the other, and when comparing in daily use, doesn't "feel" as normal/desired for experienced adults. Installation bolts (for foundation) are shorter. They DO WORK well, and provide a solid base when we installed in cement steps..but it is worth noting, as I have higher confidence in beefier bolts (length/girth) in other set...but I wouldn't notice the difference if I hadn't installed both. Mounting the vertical rail posts was slightly tougher on this set: the mounting holes are smaller, so best process was to pre-position them where desired to mount, mark the hole-to-be-drilled, then move the posts away for drilling before mounting---the other rail we installed allowed for placing vertical rails in-place, drilling, and insert/tightening the bolts. These get 4 star recommendation from me, but would offer stronger suggestions for the other set if remaining similarly priced to each other. BOTH sets are black in color and can scorch the hands when in direct sunlight during the hotter seasons--lighter colors really should be offered! ... show more
