Not a fan of vivosun for a couple different reasons. 1) they send misleading emails that make it appear as if you will receive something for doing a survey. That was after I almost bought over a grand of equipment from them but felt as if the rep I was texting was purposely stalling and beating around the bush to give me the straight up answers I was inquiring about. Ended up spending hundreds more at led grow light Depot and so glad I did. I got some of the best top of the line equipment especially for the money and class I got. The reps was knowledgeable and straight forward. Now having said that I will say that if you do get vivosun then I wouldn't get anything but the smaller less costly stuff like this heating pad. It did the job but not quite as good as the heating pads with thermos I got from Midwest grow kits ( mushrooms). Overall it will get the job done though. ... show more

Got these 9 day old chicks today. Bought this pad because of the thermostat. Chicks ignored it all day, but now that it's bedtime all 6 of them are cuddled together under it. Just laid it on top of a cheap wire cabinet shelf from Dollar Tree. When I'm not raising chicks, it will go under microgreens. Multi purpose! A friend saw my set up and liked that they could get under it with darkness to mimic momma bird's wing. Update almost 2 weeks old. Keeps them warm at night but doesn't hurt them jump up on it! ... show more

I was hesitant at first due to the bad reviews, however once I unpacked mine it laid out pretty flat & it took me maybe 2 1/2 hours to figure out why it wasn’t heating up. Please remember it is mentioned, it can take up to 5 hours. Just set a temp higher than the room temp and allow it to take its time. It definitely sped up the germination process. ... show more

I purchased this set, as well as an extra mat, to create a kombucha crate that three 1 gallon jars would sit in. The temperature probe that comes with the combo set is quite helpful in regulating the temperature. I have run two batches at a 76 degree temp, and all three jars in the batch were a constant 76 degrees. I upped the temp to 77 to try and get more bubbles during my fermentation, and it worked. Update to my review—I received the new replacement unit today and the new thermostat is working. Amazon and Vivosun quickly resolved my issue and sent a replacement that took only two days to arrive. Thanks to both Companies for taking care of this! I’ve increased my original 3 star review to 5 stars! Testing it out—you set the thermostat to a temperature, I.e. 74 degrees (Fahrenheit) and insert the temperature probe into the soil or growing medium. If the probe is reading less than the desired temperature it will run the heating pad until the medium is heated to the temperature you want it. My new replacement unit shows all this in degrees Fahrenheit, and let’s you program the temperature in Fahrenheit. The first “defective” one only showed it in degrees Celsius and could only be set to temperatures in Celsius before displaying the Fahrenheit Temperature. The new heating pad, like the previous one works, no issues there. Keep I’m mind though it plugs into the thermostat, the thermostat does not set or regulate the temperature of the heating pad. The heating pad will be warmer than the temperature displayed on the thermostat—as the thermostat is only monitoring the temperature of the soil or growing medium. Once it reaches the set temperature it shuts off power to the heating pad. My older review from earlier this week dealing with the defective thermostat: I am in the process of returning the combination seedling heating pad and thermostat because the thermostat doesn’t work. The unit I received did not supply power to the heating pad. I had set up everything as per the instructions and kept an eye on it, noticing that the “heating” light never came on with the pad plugged in. So I took a non contact thermometer and checked the pad temperature—it was room temp and nothing more, then plugged in an outlet tester (in the photos) to check the thermostat plug in for the heating pad and there was nothing. I’m assuming it’s not wired correctly and contacted Vivosun’s support via email. I emailed them Sunday and have not heard anything back yet, so I decided to exchange the item through Amazon—which had a very easy and efficient way of handling the exchange—they are sending me a new one which I hope works correctly and I have to drop the defective one off at my nearest Kohl’s store customer service department to be sent back to Amazon. I’ll have to update this once I get the replacement unit and can better judge the thermostat. The heating pad works very well and I had to manually regulate the temperature to sprout my seeds. It seems very heavy duty for the wattage it works on and should last a few seasons. I know it’s offered separately from the combination set I had ordered. If it had worked right, the thermostat was easy to set to the temperature on and I like how the probe is designed. The only other complaint I had was that you have to set the temperature in Celsius—but it will display the temperature in Fahrenheit. Some conversion work needs to be done if you want to set it at 80 degrees F for tomatoes. Had it worked and controlled the heating pad, had Viviosun contacted me back with their advice on what to do (it’s rumored on Facebook they are not responding to emails possibly because of being located in China and not working due to current events), I would have given this a 5 star review and written how well it works. Hopefully I can post that review once I get a properly working replacement. ... show more

    • Over heating & all lights are stuck on until I unplug it.

This thing worked for right about 4 weeks. I went out of town for a week when this thing decided to stop working. I left one of my household cameras on the display for I could make sure it was staying at the same temp. I was still 3 days from being home when it happened. I did not catch it for a bit over 24 hours. It was HOT, HOT. Luckly I was able to get someone over to my place to unplug it. it was a bit over 130 decrees F and still slowly climbing. And even now the seeds have not produced anything. Think it was way warmer cause I had the heater in a closed box and was measuring just the temp right on the surface Medium, which is about 6 inches thick, so you know if the temp was over 130, just imagine how warm the medium was. Just hoping I just left the heater unplugged and moved things to an area of the house that will keep around 75 degrees F.. So far nothing is growing. I think it has destroyed the seeds completely. Since it is a bit past the 30 days, I highly doubt I can get a refund, but it doesn't really matter. this was the cheapest thing in what I was trying to do. Think I will go to a mechanical one with a separate digital display for the temp to make it easy to see what it is. I gave these 3 stars cause when it was working, it works awesome with no issues. It kept the temp right where I wanted it. But now I wish I would have just unplugged it when I left, cause if I was not able to see the temp while I was out, who knows what could have happened and the seeds would of survived even if it was too cool to grow all that fast. Now I am left with almost $100 of seed destroyed. ... show more
