I bought this Vivo-Home 2-stage, 1/2 HP pump for a first-time DIY AC repair (auto compressor replacement). This is a sweet vacuum pump that did its part very well. You fill it with the supplied pump oil before turning it on. It has both 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch male flare connectors with caps, so it can connect to most manifold cables. It runs very quiet, pulls great vacuum (blue manifold gauge quickly pegged at -30 inHG), and operated for several hours without issues. Based on advice from another reviewer on preventing unnecessary pump strain, I would always (temporarily) loosen a connector cap before starting the pump and (after closing the manifold) before stopping the pump. There were no oil leaks and no problems. Based on my experience, this is a quality machine.

When it works it’s great. However, after leaving it off overnight it always struggles to start up the next time it is used. Once it starts it’ll will work even after turning it off. I have tried starting it with the valves off and removed and still stutters so it’s not the back pressure preventing it from starting. The stutter sounds like a car that won’t roll over on the start. Don’t think it’s the voltage since i made sure all other appliances are off. I emailed Vivohome and will wait to hear back. Just posting this review so they can see the video of what it does. It eventually works but just takes time and triggers the built in breaker which turns on itself after a few seconds.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I had a single stage but couldn't find it so I figured I'd give this dual stage a try. WAY better. This thing weighs at least twice as much as the single stage and performed MUCH faster.

It works, was able to pump a boat freezer down to 200 micron, the pump does its job as long as you have quality vacuum rated hoses/connectors. With a simple test setup I was able to measure it pumping as low as 10 micron.

Great little pump. I used it to draw a vacuum on my single zone and a three zone mini split system. Using just the gauge set, it pulled a good vacuum on the single zone in about 45 minutes. The three zone took about 4 hours. Pretty standard. No issues and the motor barely got warm.
