  • Compact, Reliable, and Efficient - A Must-Have for Recovery Work
I’ve been using the Robinair RG3 refrigerant recovery machine for about 6 years now, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite tools in the shop. The biggest win for me is its simplicity—the controls are intuitive, it’s easy to hook up, and it gets the job done without any fuss. What really sets it apart is the portability. It’s compact and lightweight enough that I can carry it easily between jobs or toss it in the truck without rearranging my whole setup. Despite its small size, it pulls down refrigerant quickly and efficiently, even on tougher systems. It’s also surprisingly quiet compared to some larger recovery machines I’ve used. The only feature I wish it included is an oil separator. That addition would make it even more versatile and reduce the need for external components when doing more involved recovery work. It’s not a dealbreaker by any means, but it would be a welcome upgrade for professionals. Overall, this is a dependable, space-saving machine that performs extremely well. Whether you’re in a shop or doing mobile work, the RG3 is a solid investment. ... show more

  • Great machine for DIY A/C repairs!
The media could not be loaded. I'm really pleased with the performance of this machine. I had never done A/C work before, but my car was blowing hot air and I wasn’t about to pay shop prices for something I could handle myself. I knew my compressor had failed, but the A/C lines were still sealed and full of refrigerant. Shops were quoting hundreds just to recover the refrigerant before I could replace the compressor and drier—which didn’t make sense for such a simple task. With the RG3 and a DOT-approved recovery tank, I was able to safely recover the refrigerant myself and reuse it after completing the repairs. That alone saved me both time and money, and I avoided having to buy new refrigerant altogether. While the initial cost of the machine might seem steep, it quickly pays for itself—especially if you plan to do more A/C work for yourself or even help out friends and family. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Great little machine.
Love the size and portability of this machine. Being a single cylinder machine the recovery speed leaves a little to be desired but the quality appears to be top notch. My first job using this machine was a 2 ton heat pump which had been hacked and had R-410 installed instead of the required R-22. I recovered 7.9 pounds in a reasonable time and the machine never seemed to strain or run hot even though the ambient temperature was in the high 90's with a 107 heat index. The RG-3 came with a a short interconnecting hose and a filter drier which is required to be used with each recovery! For technicians that don't require a super fast recovery machine for high volume jobs this little machine will fufill your needs at a very reasonable price ... show more

  • Alternative to an automatic machine
Following the failure of my automatic AC recovery and recharge machine, I decided I no longer needed to replace it with another expensive machine. I looked at using individual components for recovery, evacuation and recharge and the numbers just added up for my use. Not doing a lot of AC jobs, I don't mind spending a little more time using the separate tools. When I saw the Robinair name on this machine, I decided to buy and I was not disappointed. This is easy to use and has a nice instruction manual geared toward both my need for automotive and large systems where a portable machine is a necessity. After securing the needed hoses, adapters and recovery tank I hooked it up and tried it on a customer vehicle that still had a partial charge. The inlet connection is via the yellow hose on the gauge set and required an adapter from 1/4 SAE to 1/2 ACME thread so the 134a hose would connect. The outlet was connected to the recovery via a 1/4 x 1/4 hose I purchased for this purpose and no other adapters were required. The machine does come with a couple adapters that may work for your installation. Robinair suggests evacuation of liquid first and then vapor to speed the process which still was fairly quick on my partially charged system and pulled it down to around 20". An inline filter and stub hose is included in the box and will keep contaminants out of the machine and recovery tank. The addition of a vacuum pump and scale and of course a drum of 134a will complete the process. I would rate this a must have for a small auto shop looking for an alternative to spending thousands of dollars on a fully automatic machine. ... show more
