I bought this because treating cats with dignity and developing cross-species respect is very important to me. I've only had it for about two weeks, but we already love it! Here's my situation: I recently moved with my cat of about six years from a large outdoor free-roaming rural space where he was banned from coming indoors, into a small town, a granny unit one story above a garage where he is, at long last, allowed indoors. While I was thrilled for both of us that we could have an indoor life together, I quickly realized that this came with its moral considerations, like the problem of stressing out my cat who loves the outdoors and no longer has free access to it and wondering if he was sad all of the time. So I began a search for a catio solution to support his transition. Sidenote: Windowbox catios are a lovely idea, but building your own requires time, skill, and general material resources such as plans, wood, ladders if you live up high, and accountability: if you get it wrong for any reason and your cat escapes or worse, that's on you. So, a well-tested, pre-fab window catio seemed like a good start for us. If properly installed, your cat is going to be safe and sound in this. I like this one because it's versatile, with the cool feature of being an outdoor-style litterbox or catio. True to the selling points that the company describes, it benefits us across species: for humans, it's much easier access to the litterbox, more floor space, and it will make your cat happy, which should make you happy to know! And for the cats, it gives them access to outdoor air, scents, sights, and sounds, serves either as a catio or a "loo", and generally reassures them that they are respected. (You can tell this from their body language and general sense of ease.) It's solid, made out of a PVC kind of plastic that is well-built and sturdy as sturdy gets. I think it has an elegant look to it as well, personally. You ABSOLUTELY NEED TO MAKE SURE that you have windows that work for it. My first attempt to install it on a window with the correct length was foiled by the problem that the window was just about an inch unwilling to raise for us to install it correctly even though I had the measurement. Do a pretend pre-install first to double-check check your windows can do it. This will save you disappointment...because it's such a fun moment when the box arrives... For me, the window began coming out of its track and it was a bit of a mess. (I was glad to have my bestie who is good with house things and woodwork there helping out.) What we did instead was use a much wider window but treated it just like an AC unit install. We set it in the window and then measured around it and installed some wood to block the window and sit next to the catio. And it's really not going anywhere once you install it into the grooves of your window and lower the window onto it. Safe, safe, safe. That matters a lot to both of us! (See video, he even helped us put it together out of the box while adding the netting...). For those who are concerned if you have to take it out when you leave your house, it might help to consider how you feel about AC units in windows... and to be honest, if you had any style window catio, you'd have to address this concern at some level...use one of those window lock bars! Be creative and don't let this concern stop you from taking care of your cat. I was mindful to install mine on a window that gets a lot of daytime shade and it brings in a great breeze when I leave the mini entrance door flap off (which I needed to do to train my cat to use it). He likes to sit inside of it as well as chill out right beneath it with access to the air. I think of one of my friends living in a New York City apartment with two kittens. I want to get one for them. I think it's a great option for indoor cats in cities (kitties in cities?) who need access to air and nature because it's their right and our duty to care for them. If you're like me, you love your cat you're going to do anything you can to care for and support them, and this is one of those products whose intention is full of care for the needs of the animal. You get them access to medicine, outdoors, proper food and water sources, etc. and you treat them kindly and humanely. For that humane reason alone, I love it and will use it in a variety of ways from catio to litterbox. What benefits our pets benefits us. Well worth the cost for the sake of the time, resources, and even worry saved in building your own. Trust me, I've been looking! When my cat is *really* happy, he lays on his back with all four paws up. So, while still new-to-us, this felt like the highest compliment I could offer to this catio/litterbox. Four paws= Five Stars. I certainly won't be looking for a DIY option any longer. This works and it is EASY.

This catio is beautifully made. It has enough room for a 14 pound cat to stretch out. Assembly: Ingenious design! FYI, one part begets the next. I tried to take the little ledge off after I assembled it and learned I have to remove several parts to get to the ledge. This wasnt a bother for me though because the assembly is intuitive, also the directions are also accurate and complete, every part you touch has a clear explanation for its use Also, all the screws and holes match up. In general this catio is very high quality, I like that it is American made :-) Would purchase again.

I got my cat catio early then given date, and it came almost completely set up. The only thing I had to do was screw the screen to the catio, I must say hold on to those lil screws was a challenge. So far my cats is scared of it but I think that will change, once they see birds like to land on this. I gave it four stars because those little screws was a pain , getting in the hold.

I cannot speak highly enough of this company. This product is so well-made yet so easy to put together. The hardest part of the whole thing is putting the little screws in the netting for the inside of the catio and that is nothing. I literally had to keep pushing my cats away because they were fighting to try to get to it before it was done in the window. It is winter time here in Illinois and I was debating a couple months ago on taking it out for winter. We have had some really bad days -20 below with windchill and I feel absolutely nothing coming through it. The cat flap is so easy for the cats to use and if they don’t like it, you couldn’t remove it until they learn and get used to it. My actually broke after six months while my cats were jumping from I think a distance further than necessary, and I believe it made it harder on the device so I contacted VistaGato about their two year warranty and no problems at all! I sent them an email of the pictures a copy of the invoice and they sent me a brand new one! Seriously when is the last time you did not have to fight with customer service or a company or mess around and get all the parts and Reeboks it and ship it back I didn’t have to deal with any of that! I am so impressed. I literally am thinking of getting another one for the back bedroom window in the summertime and if I do, I will definitely this company again. You would be crazy to order one from anywhere else. I’ve never seen any other one that looks easier to assemble even though it’s plastic it is durable. I totally believe it was all on my cats, putting too much pressure on the step that caused it to break so I did put a cat post that was shorter slightly under it so that they would have to jump on that first and then to the unit and I have had no issues since. Thank you so much VistaGato for making such a quality product. I wish my cat could talk so he could tell you how much he loves this day or night snow or rain. He’s out there scoping out the squirrels and the birds.

Pros... 1. It is made of a nice sturdy plastic. 2. It actually looks pretty nice and clean. 3. Once assembled it is easy to get into to clean litter box. 4. Comes with screws to screw into the window if needed. (I think this should be a must if the window is more than just a few feet off the ground.) 5. The ledge is quite sturdy once it is screwed in. 6. Screen has small holes, so hopefully it will keep out bugs. Cons... 1. Price is quite high for what you get. Should be $150 tops. Maybe a bigger size for $200. 2. Did not come fully assembled as advertised. Didn't come with any direction either. Looked up on line. Directions don't mention the screws at all. Had to screw in screen to the inside. Easy for some, but my old hands had trouble with the 12 tiny screws and the limited space inside. Had to screw on the shelf too. Also not mentioned in ad or directions. Can screw into window if wanted, also not mentioned. 3. It is good sized for cats to lay down, but needs to be about 4 inches taller to be used easily as a litter box. My small cat can use it, but my medium and big cat won't, because they cannot stand fully up or squat with heads up. The width and depth are good. Just needs to be a bit taller. Don't make the window frame part taller, as it won't fit in windows. Just make the outside box taller. 4. If the box is taller the litterbox sides could be a couple inches taller too.

We have a rescued indoor only cat that loves to go out on our front porch and "basically sleep" for hours on end in the summer. Now this is wonderful, but we get a little overwhelmed when he wants to be out there for hours- all requiring adult supervision. So we have been looking for some time for a way to give him what he wants without taking over our lives. Amazon has many Catio type devices, many of them quite elaborate. But, we were looking for something that was basically "plug & play" for one of our porch windows. The setting (see picture) lets us sit out & be with him, but are not "tied" to responsibility for supervision for hours. This class of products fits that bill & was easy to install for a reasonable price. The catio is designed for modern windows, we did find we could provide a "tighter fit" by using some "string foam- 1/2" & 1" (see pictures) for the installation. With this tight installation it really doesn't matter if the cat will use the entrance door or if you leave the door off. I did have to contact customer service for one problem, I caused; their response was immediate, friendly, & a happy contrast for what one often gets from customer service these days. Highly recommended!

First of all, We loved the idea of this. Airflow to help with the scent, letting the cats spend time watching the outside. However, well, lets just say there needs to be some design changes. First of all, its too small. It says its comfortable for large cats, its not. after litter is in with the box they provide, even our smaller cats could barely stand inside of it, and one of them happens to be a standing pee'er. It just needs to be slightly bigger. One cat inside it has a good chance of getting waste on themselves and tracking, since there really isn't any catch mat to speak of, just the tiny hard plastic step. Second, what is this price point? When we paid 300$, we expected a good, solid construction, instead we got cheap, brittle molded plastic, 2 bags of screws, and a screen we had to put on. I'm confused, what part of this is worth 300$? Third, and probably most importantly, the smell. It does not, in any way, stop the smell from getting in. That small door lets it right out into whatever room you have it in. We woke up this morning to our living room smelling of cat crap from overnight from our 2 cats. It can vent out the mesh slits, sure, but it wont stop it. Overall, its not a bad idea, and I really wanted it to work, but it needs brought back to the design board and it needs to have that price point looked at too.
