I purchased a new mattress and the showroom model was a lot softer than the one I received. I knew I had a well made mattress, but I was experiencing pain on my shoulders and hips. The mattress company would allow me to return or exchange it, but I wanted to give a topper a chance. The company could put an additional 2 inches of foam built into the top of a mattress for me, but I would have had to pay an additional $400 for that mattress.I figured a topper for under $100 might be a good fix. What I learned about buying mattresses is that you seldom will get the perfect one or it might feel great but just for a short time. Opting for a firmer mattress with a topper is the way to go. I read tons of reviews before I made this purchase. I am very happy with this purchase. It totally eliminated the pain I was experiencing on my too firm mattress without making the sleep surface too soft. It was just soft enough to give me cushioning under the pressure points--just what I was hoping for. I didn't detect any unpleasant smell when unpackaging and found the size to fit perfectly on my queen bed.
