I ordered the violin in 4/4 size and am reviewing this as a complete & total novice. It arrived in great condition and comes with everything you need to play. There are some basic instructions but I did have to go online to learn how to actually place the "bridge" and tune the violin but of course, that is to be expected. To my untrained ears, it sounds good. I honestly was surprised with how good I could occasionally make it sound. The case is hard sided but covered in simple black nylon, with the brand name prominent on the side, which I don't love to be honest. It does serve it's purpose as far as being protective & keeping things organized though. I love that it comes with two bows. I think if your dabbling or simply curious if this might be the instrument for you this is a solid option.

I always wanted to try to learn the violin so I thought that this would be a good option. I don't know much about violins but after watching some of the reviewer videos, it seems that this includes everything that you need to get started. It seems to be made fairly well. You get two bows, extra strings and plenty of rosin. All in all, I think this is a good deal if you just want to see if you like it. The instructions that come with it are not very good. If you don't know anything about playing the violin, you definitely will have to watch other instructional videos to get started.

This is listed as a “Beginner” violin, but in actuality its the “beginning of how much money one will need to spend to convert it into a playable instrument. I’m no expert and because of such, and the fact that this set did not come with any instructions for a beginner to use to get started, I spent several days watching videos and browsing web sites to learn as much as possible. From how to scuff up the rosin cake before you can apply it to the bow, how to tighten the hair on the bow, how to install the bridge (which is not properly fitted, btw), and a plethora of other information. While learning about the bridge, I also discovered that the “Nut” (the little bridge thing at the top of the neck and finger board) is way too tall which causes the player to have to exert more undue force upon the strings in order to press them against the finger board. As one Violin maker stated in a video for a similar Amazon “Beginner Violin” it requires a minimum of $250 to have most the flaws fixed, a bridge properly fitted and good strings installed to make this a playable instrument with decent sound. His advice was to spend a few hundred more on a low cost violin from a reputable dealer/maker and have something that actually is “beginner level” and sounds great out of the box/case. The Strings are clearly garbage, as even with the digital tuner included with the set, I could not get the D string anywhere near D4 (293.7 hz) no mater what I did. The other 3 strings did tune okay but would not hold their tune for long. I’m not sure if it was due to the tuning pegs being poorly fitted and slipping (another issue addressed by the experts), or if the strings are simply too soft and stretching. Stretching could be an issue considering both the bridge and nut being far too tall and not properly fitted for the instrument. If you’re just curious about the violin and don’t want to spent a lot of money, then this may be an Okay buy. But if one is serious about learning to play the violin and wants something that can be used in a school or group symphony or solo public play, then I suggest spending your money on something far better than this.

I admittedly don't know much about violins, but I feel like this is a decent one for the price. It is beautiful, and the case is well made and portioned. The violin will not play without rosin being put on the bowstrings, and they do not come pre-prepped for this, so that explains a lot of the reviews saying it's unplayable. It's not unplayable; you just need to scratch the rosin with the bottom of the bow then rub the bow back and forth across the block. It did need tuning, but it's held the tune as far as we can tell. Again for the price, I feel like this is a decent violin.
