A friend recommended a wine aerator to my husband (they consider themselves to be wine connoisseurs), although the friend was using his red wine aerator for both red and white wines. I found the white wine aerator on Amazon and ordered both this one and the red wine aerator (my husband prefers white wine). He is very impressed with the improved taste of mediocre wines using both of the aerators, but the white wine aerator is especially great because he can purchase less expensive wines and serve guests a very high-quality tasting wine as well as enjoy a lesser quality wine with the taste of an expensive wine. Since I don't care for the taste of any wine, I have to rely on my husband's recommendation on this one, and he highly recommends both the white and the red wine aerators made by Vinturi and available through Amazon. Just be sure to hold the aerator at an angle as instructed in the directions with the product, as holding it straight up and down will result in a mess on the countertop or bar. This really does make a huge difference in the taste of my white wine! My new favorite thing is tap wine, which I’ve been seeing in more and more restaurants lately. The wine just tastes so much better and smoother. I wanted to get this aerator with the hope that it would make my wine at home taste more like the wine on tap at restaurants. It works! I used it once and immediately ordered another one for my sister as a birthday gift. I use mine for white wine and she uses hers for red wine. She was amazed as well. I wrote a longer review of the red wine Vinturi being a hit at my brother's 40th birthday party, which was a gift to him. Based on the positive feedback from him and his wife, I began to research if the white wine Vinturi model would have the same results with plans to buy it for a girlfriend who only drinks white wine. There was not much information stating that aerating white wine would be as beneficial as it is for red wine, or even needed. In short, I was glad I bought this as a gift for her as we each immediately noticed a brighter, lighter, sweet tasting wine with a cleaner aftertaste. Both the $20 Russian River (N California) white wine and a $7 bottle of white wine benefited from using the Vinturi White Wine Aerator. ... show more

In order to objectively challenge the performance of the Vinturi, I performed a little experiment. I left the room and had my wife pour three glasses of red wine from the same bottle; two were poured without the aerator and one with the aerator. Once the bubbles from the aeration settled (30 seconds or so), my wife called me back into the room to perform the "blind tasting" to see if I could discern the wine which had been poured through the Vinturi. ... show more

If I would understand the aerator for red wine would do the same as a decanter (not quite in fact as we compared the decanter to the aerator and it's different, the aerator is way above on outstanding Napa cabernets s. for instance), I would **never** guess the white would be useful as we never decant whites. Guess what... it works esp. on metallic buttery chardonnays (fairly stereotyped from California as I cannot pay for the best ones) where we get amazing results. On sauvignons, it reduced dramatically the back metallic flavor too. So, a recommended purchase for many whites. So, getting tired of the oak flavors of californian chardonnays, get this and you'll get a lovely pseudo- Burgundy chardonnay (like Chateau Meursault) from a cliché-chardonney from Grgich (Napa) for instance. Least but not last, we tried the red aerator on whites, and compared to to white aerated by the white as I could never believe that both would make a difference (= no more than a marvellous marketing trick...). Guess what #2 ? For one sauvignon blanc (Napa, again) tested tonight on clams/linguini, the white areator works better than the red areator does for the same wine.... maybe it's real............ (PS / I'm not affiliated to those vinturi people, just an independent French-US geologist). ... show more

We have both the red wine aerator and this one for our white wines. There are differences in the design of the two. The red wine aerator has a screen filter to stop sediment from getting into your glass. Both aerators help wines breathe. The white wine aerator does seem to have a slightly different effect on white wines than the red wine aerator does on white wines. ..yes, we used the red wine aerator for our white wines until we purchased this one. If you love white wines, it is definitely worth having this one. Just used this (3/30/13) on a 2004 LaRocca NSA Chenin Blanc. It was fabulous! Wish we had several more bottles to pour through this aerator. ... show more

    • My mother loves it
I bought this as a birthday gift for my mother. I gave her the red wine vinturi last year. She thought it was dumb and said I shouldn't have gotten it for her. Then she tried it. Needless to say within a year I was buying her the white wine version! She loves doing the little taste test with each new bottle pouring out a few sips without aerating to taste and the using the vinturi for the glass. She always loves the change in the wine. Don't expect too much of a change in the taste of the wine...it's not going to turn a chardonnay into a pinto grigio it will make whatever wine you're drinking smoother and help mellow the acidity and tannins. I will purchasing one for myself in the near future...it will be the 4th one I've purchased within the year! ... show more
