  • Exactly what I was looking for
I had previously bought a smaller record player trying to save money and needless to say I wound I wound up buying another one. It had decent sound but for I was able to upgrade the speakers. It looks nice on my music room.

  • Sounds Alright & Price Is Right
Color: Wood Black
Although this turntable won't be givin' Thorens or B&O a run for their money, nonetheless a great addition to my basement workshop where I have been storing my old lp's that haven't been played in decades. Best part is now I can finally listen again to a coupla old albums that never made it to cd or mp3 (ex in att pix). The built-in amp/att. speakers are plenty loud for a small room, with the typical low-fidelity you would expect at this price point, but you can always run this set-up thru a main-amp (if ya got one handy) via the one RCA plug out-put on the back terminal, although you will NOT be able to run other conventional non-powered speakers simply via the RCA plugs (drats!!) but that's how it goes. Small footprint, small sound, at a small price = recommended buy. UPATE AFTER A DAY OF SPINNING A FEW TUNES: First of all, out of the box, all of the four rubber turntable legs were not equally level and one required about a 1/16" shim to deter any wobble of the platform; o.k., easy enough. that's done. After a "no-hassle" hook-up of speaker wires/power cord, a twist of the power knob, and quite simply, one of the gentlest-dampenings I have ever seen upon lowering the arm, the turntable fires-up with no audible flutter or wavering and absolutely no difficulty tracking like some super-light arm/cartridges experience. So that's all the good stuff, but when we get down to the audio-fidelity, at first, I thought, "Hey, this sounds pretty decent!", but after about 15 minutes, I realized that the sound this built-in amp/stylus/speakers produces is really rather harsh and grating and I became quite weary in short-order (although not quite ready to give it up!). I think the initial jubilation, which is deceiving, comes from cranking-up a reasonable volume (considering the price-point here) with no annoying distortion like you'll get on really cheap audio products when you get over 1/2-way up on volume. Additionally, even with the speakers physically set at their widest possible separation, you'll hear very little stereo separation (just put on any early Capitol Records "Beach Boys" or "Beatles" albums (which were notorious for, some might complain, TOO- enhanced obvious channel vocal/instrument separation, ala Capitol's "Duophonic" if you go back that far!). Well, if I seem TOO critical, hear me out, (even though back in the early 70s I was in the record business and an engineer at L.A.s KMET-FM ("The Mighty Met!"), and had access to state-of-the-art equipment, I can still discern and appreciate the finer qualities of even low-end audio, but here, sad to say, is a contradiction, i.e. a pretty decent turntable, but with barely listenable sound (apparent only after a few hours, 'cause your initial impression is (naturally) "colored" owing to the decent volume alone, which is a typical psychological-audio response - just ask any "Pacific Stereo" salesman back in the day! ie, crank it up, and just about anything sounds good, ie. long enough to get you out of the show-room and up to the sales counter!). But I do think the major problem here is that after decades of near perfect digital sound (ie CD/MP3 and beyond), it's really hard going back in time to a really poor sound-source, limited by a low-end stylus/amp/speaker. In a lot of ways, even my 25 yr old inexpensive name-brand portable CD player has way-cleaner sound, albeit not much bass/preset treble/or channel separation by design. So, my "two-cents" here is that, you don't have to be an upper-end audiophile snob to dismiss this set-up, but you will find that the sound out of this unit is hard to take in fairly short order. That said, I do recommend it for the novice, or those with "tin-ears" and don't care about fidelity one way or the other, or if you no longer have a decent stereo set-up, and, especially like me, you have a few old albums that are a joy to hear again that for some reason or another, were never digitized and only exist in an LP format. ... show more

  • Better than most of the cheaper players you see during holidays, but could use some improvements.
Color: Wood Brown
This is a great unit that doesn't require a separate amplifier and really easy to set up. If you are looking for a record player like I was to play vinyl this is great. You cannot close the cover on the turntable when playing EPs however, so keep that in mind. Its has decent sound, and great all in one solution as long as you aren't looking for professional reproduction with higher end components. ... show more

  • Even my picky husband approves
Color: Wood Black
I had been looking for a record player for a while and was thrilled at the opportunity to try this setup. This arrived quickly and in perfect shape. It was easy to assemble and was ready to play in mere minutes. This has a small hole for you to use to listen to the record over headphones, but my husband used this to plug in some high quality speakers to compare against the speakers that came with the record player. We both agreed that the included speakers picked up all registers of sound more than the fancy speakers. The fancy speakers had a beautifully clear sound that seemed to let the treble really shine, but the lower registers and mid-range were very subdued and almost missing. The speakers included with this record player, in comparison, really allowed a nice balance of all ranges of sound to come through, providing a fuller, pleasing sound. This is not a super fancy set, but it works nicely and has a small footprint for those with space limitations. ... show more
