    • Excellent Lens, Lack of Weather Sealing May Issue for Some
This is an amazing lens but do know that the lack of weather sealing means it can’t stand up to environments like a humid beach. I used it successfully in Bangkok for many months, but the moment I took it to the beaches of the Philippines, it died. The lens is so good that I’m replacing it with the 27mm Pro variant, which is weather sealed. If you don’t shoot in super challenging conditions, this lens is incredible, especially for the price. If you do, consider upgrading to the Pro variant and getting weather sealing. ... show more

    • Sharp, Affordable, and Video-Ready – Viltrox 25mm on the A6700
I think the Viltrox 25mm f/1.7 is a great budget lens. I compared it with the Sigma 30mm f/1.4, and I’ve got to say—optically, it’s just as sharp, if not sharper, than the Sigma. While it’s not as solid in terms of build quality, it doesn’t feel cheap either. Its lightweight design actually makes it a great travel lens. It would be nice if it had some weather sealing, but for the price, I can’t be too picky. There is some noticeable vignetting from around f/1.7 through f/2.8, but it’s easily fixable in post. One thing I’ve really appreciated is how well it focuses on subjects—eye tracking works reliably, at least on the Sony A6700. Another big plus: when shooting video, there’s very little focus breathing. In fact, it performs better than the Sigma 30mm in this regard, which shows more visible breathing. It does exhibit a bit of focus pulsing, but that disappears if you set the in-camera AF Transition Speed to 3. Anything higher than that, and you might notice it pulsing—briefly shifting focus away before locking back onto the subject. On a crop sensor like the A6700, the 25mm gives you a full-frame equivalent of about 37.5mm (often rounded to 37mm in EXIF data). When shooting video and with Active SteadyShot enabled, the crop increases slightly—bringing the effective focal length to around 41–42mm. When shooting in 4K 120p, the crop tightens even more, giving an equivalent of roughly 46–48mm, depending on your settings. Overall, this is a solid budget-friendly lens that performs really well for both photography and video. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I’ve been using the Viltrox 25mm f/1.7 on my Sony FX30 and I’m super happy with it. The lens is very lightweight, which makes it ideal for handheld shooting and gimbal work. Autofocus is quick and accurate, and it stays quiet enough for video use. Image quality is excellent, with nice sharpness and pleasing background blur at f/1.7. For the price, this lens delivers way more than I expected and has become a go-to option in my kit.
