  • Great sticks! I will be buying additional pairs.
Style: X5AVG
I really like the Vic Firth X5AVG series of drumsticks. They are 16 1/2 inches long which is a half inch longer than a traditional stick. I have a larger kit, and believe it or not, a half inch does make a difference (I have a pretty good idea, what most of you are thinking). The Vic grip does give me significantly more control over the sticks when my hands start to sweat. I would recommend these sticks to anyone that needs just a little extra reach. The review is based on three criteria, “thickness”, “durability” and “for beginners”. I think those are ridiculous criteria to review these sticks. I have been playing for over 40 years and I consider myself to be an advanced intermediate player. I do have arthritis in my hands, so the Vic grip helps. Stick thickness is a personal preference. Durability, is based on your particular playing style, and as for beginners, sure why not. I also think that it’s for an advanced intermediate like myself. I hope this helps. ... show more

  • Best so far
Style: X5AN
These are by far the best sticks I’ve tried. Before these, I used the Promark 747s. I have also used Vater, Regal Tip, Ahead, and Zildjian sticks in the past, and these are the best by far! These have the length, balance, and forgiveness that the 747s used to have before they changed manufacturing process. These usually last me 10 hours of play. In the pictures, you can see that I play the rim a good bit, and they they last long enough for the butt to get seasoned with hand oils. Promarks simply would not last that long- they usually failed at the neck or tip region before I could break them in. The usual place these sticks fail are at the shoulder after extensive abuse. The acorn tips (I prefer the brightness of nylon) give nice warmth, definition, and feel for nice articulate sticking. The longer length (roughly 16-1/2”) give more range options for rim shots and shoulder strikes and provide better balance and feel. No stick is “perfect”- but these are pretty darn close. ... show more

  • BEST STICKS EVER!!!
Style: X5A
I have tried all kinds of makes and models and I have ended up with these. It is the perfect stick in every way. The size, the length, the weight, the balance. Do yourself a favor and get the EXTREME 5As by Vic Firth. There’s nothing out there like it. Trust me. Hope they never stop making these.

  • grips stays in place
Style: X5ANVG
These drumsticks are so much better than the cheaper ones because the lower grip part of the drumstick stays put, where as the cheaper ones come off. This helps with sweaty hands. Recommend!

  • Great Reach Around the Kit
Style: X5A
The extra 1/2" just feels so much better in my hands. Got used to the length of Rock, and made it hard sometimes to go back to smaller sticks for some other music styles, missing a stroke here and there. I've been faithful to VicFirth for over 20 years, keep it up! (Bah-dum-rimshot)

  • They're definitely extreme
Style: X5A
They're a lot longer than a regular pair of 5a's and each pair typically lasts me 2 months. I would recommend these for rock or metal. These are not good for jazz; in that case I would recommend Vic Firth's Peter Erskine Ride Stick which sounds amazing in any dynamic range. It really depends on what genre you're playing and what sound you're going for but if you play loud, these are for you. Definitely will continue to buy these whenever I run out! ... show more

  • EXPENSIVE, WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, but don't go cheaper!
Style: X5AN
I'm somewhat old (and old-school) and never thought in my lifetime I'd be paying 10 bucks for a couple if hickory sticks, but here we are. I've tried a ton of other brands and they just fall apart, and I'm one of the lightest-hitting drummers in my area. These at least last a while and have some weight to them. Let's get that price back down! ... show more
