Description

VHT Engine Metallic Spray Paint has excellent durability and superior heat and chemical resistance. It is specially formulated engine spray paint to withstand corrosion, rust, salt spray, chemicals and additives of today's gasoline blends and degreasers. VHT's Engine Metallics is a unique blend of urethane and ceramic resins, which produce a long-lasting finish for engines, engine accessories or wherever a tough durable heat and chemical resistant finish is needed. Engine Metallics paint coating creates a cool sparkling metallic finish and withstands intermittent temperatures up to 650°F. This VHT paint is ideal for headers, engine blocks, starters, brackets, water pumps, valve covers, transmissions, and differential covers. VHT is part of a multi high performance coating system for the ultimate protection and quality. The coating system consists of engine primer, engine color, and engine clear. VHT Engine Metallic Aerosol Paint dries to the touch in 30 minutes and completely overnight. VHT Metallic automotive spray paint only attains its unique qualities after correct curing. Curing occurs with normal engine operating temperatures or parts can be heated to 200° F. Complete application and curing process instructions are also printed on each can.

Worked great for my cobra calipers. Applied the heat primer along with heat clear coat and they look great. Have held up good so far. They have a nice bright gold color which is what I wanted. I have some pots from Ikea that I like a lot but the paint loosened up over time and they got ratty looking. I also have a 10 year old $4 walmart tea kettle that also had cheap paint on it (imagine that) which was flaking off. I sanded them both down to bare metal with like 150 grit sandpaper, wiped them with Iso alcohol, and sprayed them with 3-4 coats of this paint. The pot I laid down bottom side up with the handle removed and sprayed everything including the bottom. That is holding up very well. The tea kettle I masked the lid and handle and sprayed it sitting upright. It too looks like I just painted it. It’s only been a month maybe so we’ll see if it lasts but it’s a huge improvement and I didn’t have to toss them in a landfill. The instructions say hold the can 18” away and they mean it - if you do this you will get perfect coverage, if you don’t, if you get too close then it’ll sag. I used about 2/3rds to 3/4ths of one can to paint one 1qt saucepan and one standard sized tea kettle. ... show more

Pros: - Near perfect match for Subaru Wilderness trim. (VHT SP404 - Engine Metallic Gold Flake) - Easy application. - Plenty of paint in one can. Applied 7 coats on each caliper and still had a good amount of product left over. - Even after seven coats, caliper casting details still show through which gives it the appearance that the calipers were made out of “gold.” Cons: - Very thin. Not like G2 caliper paint which is much more thick (like the coating on a candy apple). Not sure how this will hold up over time despite using VHT’s clear coat spray to finish and protect the paint. - Very toxic. Even in a very well ventilated area, I developed respiratory problems that lasted weeks. Review: I bought this paint as it is the only one on the market that very closely matches the Subaru Wilderness trim color. In the past, I’ve used G2 caliper paint, so this was my first time using VHT’s product. For prep, I cleaned off the calipers with alcohol (70-90%) and not brake cleaner. Brake cleaner and VHT sprays do NOT work well together. I masked off all rubber components, brake lines, plates, discs, and every but and bolt. I then used VHT’s Flameproof/Very High Temperature primer - VHT ESP100000 (2 light coats, 1 light/medium). I gave a full 20 minutes between each application. I then used 4 light coats of VHT’s Engine Metallic gold flake paint (VHT SP404) with 15 minutes in between each application. I followed up with 3 medium coats with 20 minutes in between each one. Outdoor temps were in the low to mid 70s. Afterwards, I used 4 coats (2 light, 2 medium) of VHT’s High Temperature Gloss Clear Caliper Paint (clear coat - VHT SP730). The end results turned out fantastic - so much so that people have mistaken my work as special OEM/Factory parts. The dealership we purchased our Wilderness from was also very impressed. My only concern going forward is the durability during extreme weather and temperature changes, as well as coming in contact with road debris. At this time though, I am very pleased and would recommend. One caveat: be sure to wear a respirator even if you think you have enough air flow in your garage or whatever. I ended up with respiratory difficulties using this paint which is not something I’ve experienced with other not too dissimilar projects in the past. ... show more

Wow. BEAUTIFUL color!!!! Especially in the sunlight. It’s not as bright as I was hoping for in most light conditions BUT it’s definitely the color I want. I did not want yellow and i did not want a race red like most high performance sports cars. I agree with everyone else who wrote a review before me. TAKE YOUR TIME spraying this color. The nozzle was horrible but I had a 3rd party trigger attachment that i used so it was easy breezy. This paint will run. You have to seriously build up on the coats. I literally sanded, then primed (4 coats) and applied 7 total paint coats — I’m not kidding. And that’s mostly bc i let it run a couple of times and wanted to redo it (did not need to re-sand). I applied 2 coats of clear. Love this finish. If you’re spraying your calipers like me, you don’t need 4 cans. I literally only used 1. You’d be good with buying 2 and maybe one can of clear. ... show more

Local Auto Zone stored quit carrying this color of VHT Engine Metallic paint and I can't figure out why. First of all, if you cure the paint correctly, it is strong, durable, and chemical resistant. It works great for Brake parts and creates a unique look over the typical caliper paint. Also, this particular color matches a wide range of fire alarm panels factory paint which saves a ton of money salvaging enclosures for electricians. I've used it to paint many boxes and electrical parts, creating a brand and unique look. This is high quality paint with a very diverse application set. I use this brand of paint for everything automotive and electrical. Curing this paint consistent with manufacturer's instruction is necessary for great durability. It is not well specified on the can so do the research. Clean well with alcohol, apply all coats within the hour, and bake as instructed. Don't rely on engine parts to heat the paint to curing or you'll wind up with a mess. ... show more

Love this can of paint. I used it to restore my Weber Q grill to my own unique setup. The color is amazing, has some metallic quailty. Holds up to high heat, instructions were easy to follow and the durability although only 2 weeks old seems awesome, its traveled quite a bit and not a scratch yet.
